thanks, Carster

much prefer the original vocal, but the music sounds great.

vocal is probably better this way though, if its the single/featured track.

now, will there be a decent video and mick/keith joint appearances to promote
the re-release? think that that (plus the taylor surprise) was what goosed the exile
re-release, even more than "plundered my soul" itself.

just thought of this too: despite its fame, exile was relatively a low-seller so
that the re-release gave lots of casual fans an excuse to buy something they
didn't have but always heard about. but some girls sold big originally.
could that be a negative factor? in that casual fans might not be as hungry for it?

Not my favourite outtake to start with, but, hey, it sounds great, and unlike some Exile-reworks, it sounds convincing.

But a strange choice for a "single" nonetheless.

To me the song here - as in the boots as well - is "Think I'm Going Mad" with more country flavor and more words in the verses. I think the key hook line Mick's repeats again and again (and not leading anyhere in the end), is quite the same.

After two listenings, it is truely a "polished" version, but I don't find the anachronism in Mick's voice s such a principal mistake at all (that it destroys the listening experience). He seems to recapture something of his 'sound' from the late 70's, even though some important 'edge' is missing and replaced with the recent thin and artificial peter pan voice... but good news is that it is way much better and especially far enough from the horrible "interpretations" he does in SuperHeavy ballads.

I really like it, but yeah, seems an odd choice for a single release.

Superb, Good start to the new stuff. I wouldn't worry about it being a single. It's not as though that matter anymore unless your the Black Eyed Peas.....

Yeah, I couldn't have imagined any other track as Claudine as the single.

Well... They can always try "We had it all"/"You win again". This would be a H-bomb winking smiley

Anyway, most of these outtakes have very 'country' feeling winking smiley

Great, very catchy. Mick's voice is perfect. Is this new (2011) or the original?

Hmm... come to think of it, it's a nice proposition. I guess, strictly from the hardcore fan's view, it would be the perfect choice, wouldn't it?

The result is the same than the Exile outtakes : the song is ruined with the 2011 Jagger "nasal" voice.
Did he believed that he could sing the same 1977-78 way ?
Very lame result.

thank you.

quick reaction: not as bad as feared. mick does a reasonable facsimile of his faux-country vox from the era...thankfully very little of his modern mannerisms....having said that...not sure what was wrong with the original vocal...but that's mick fer ya....

I agree. He probably thinks he can sing it better now, which is absurd. I miss the muddy sounding, drunken charm of the outtake. But the new version is ok on first listen. I'm still no fan Don Was production though, he separates the instruments effectively but the sound he gets is always a little to polished and clean.

not too bad....the faux-country vocals aren't as over the top as i feared.
vocals might be TOO prominent though.

vocal quality on "new" exile material was better imo.

my 2 year old gave it a THUMBS DOWN. winking smiley

Are you sure he didn't complete the lyrics before he did the new vocal track? That's my impression at least after first hearing. You can also notice he goes a little more for a melody with this new take. So to me it made sense to give it a new try. And we'll always have the oritinal version stored away to compare. So what's the problem?

I think its great, it has a very ramshackle demo feel about it, he hasnt sang so well in a long time IHMHO it really sounds like the Stones of old for a change drinking smiley

I like both versions...Mick's delivery on the original is more 'lazy and authentic', which sounds great.

That said, don't mind the new vocal at all.

As a choice for a single, maybe not a bad idea...perhaps one of the only ways they may make a breakthru on the charts nowadays, via country audience, which still sell big.

Only question is whether this will sell with country fans.

Thanks very much, Carter.

I'm really expecting a couple of Jagger-Richards-Wood credits, but we'll see. "When You're Gone" definitely should be.
Here's my pass at the lyrics:

NO SPARE PARTS

Your Daddy drank himself half to death when he was 39 years old
But I hope you don’t think I feel like a father to you
But I want to tell you I miss you so much, you’re a thousand miles away
I’m at the wheel of my car and I’m coming on home to you

Lonely Hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts; I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through

I take 210 to Phoenix, I’ll be in Tucson by the afternoon
Get some shut eye in Vista and a bite at the greasy spoon
Took the turn off 90, I should have stayed on the interstate

I was lost in Rio; my map was kind of out of date
I saw the lights of Markham; I guess it was a scenic route
When I had to change a tire, I’m glad I wore my western boots

Lonely Hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts; I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through

When I got to Sonora, the sun was shining in my eyes
With the air combusted, the windshield full of flies
In just a few hours, you’re gonna fall in my loving arms
I been so hot to see you, I set off the fire alarms

Lonely Hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts; I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through

Nice to hear Spare Parts. Jagger does all right, imo. But the song could have needed some editing, it´s very long.

Thanks for the upload, Carster! thumbs up
