Poor Ronnie didn't make the Sweet 16. No doubt some tough seeding matchups.

Based on who I enjoy listening to more with their bands (not skill of the individual, per se) I'd send the following on to the Elite 8:

Mick Taylor

David Gilmour

Joe Walsh

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Joe Perry

Eddie Van Halen

Keith Richards

Eric Clapton

Peace,
Mr DJA

How could "Jimmy Hendrix" have made it this far without being corrected?! To make up for it, I'll vote for Jimi in each pair, regardless of whether he's one of the picks or not.

For what it's worth, I did correct the spelling in my above post!
But lets cut to the chase of all this...I claim Jimi Hendrix the winner and nothing can change that - game over!!! winking smiley

Carlos Santana v Mick Taylor

George Harrison v David Gilmour - None of them.

Peter Frampton v Joe Walsh

Stevie Ray Vaugh v Duane Allman

Joe Perry v Brian May - Perry has that gentle blues tone, May is just annoying.

Jeff Beck v Eddie Van Halen - Eddie is technically superior, but Jeff Beck is more interesting.

Keith Richards v Jimmy Page - Page is so overrated with his horribly sloppy playing and overall crappy sound.

Eric Clapton v Jimmy Hendrix -

Agree that Jimi should likely take the title- however-
I think if body of work and/or longevity was a factor (as it really should be).. Keith wins it running away (from Clapton winking smiley

Duane Allman died when he was 24. Let that sink in. Peter Green basically quit music when he was 23.

Hard choices; especially for 1st go-round.

MICK TAYLOR over Carlos Santana - based on MT's Stones work

GEORGE HARRISON over Dave Gilmour - George saw the whole of the moon.

JOE WALSH over Frampton - did anyone pick Frampton here?

STEVIE RAY VAUGHN over Duane Allman - Duane, of course is fantastic, other wordly even, but I get joy from Stevie Ray's playing on top of it all.

-JOE PERRY over Brian May - I'd go with Perry for the rock'n roll-ness.

JEFF BECK over Eddie - Beck draws from at least another 25 years of heritage and history; something EvH chooses to disregard

KEITH over Jimmy Page - I wish I had heard more of JP's early session work; not a big fAN of his style of Blues. Keith has greatest body of work - he trumps Jimmy there. The whole rhythmic approach is way more up my alley.

HENDRIX over Clapton - I think Clapton himself would agree with this. I still believe that Hendrix has remained untouched - Stevie Ray and Prince have come close.

I'm afraid Frampton just doesn't come alive for most IORRians.

Have to admit I was glued to that record for quite awhile when it was released (as were millions of others). I was only 12 years old at the time, and that talkbox was freaky and intriguing. There were a couple decent tunes on it (Do You Feel Like We Do and Show Me The Way), but can't say his guitar playing has ever been truly spectacular and unique when compared to others - even when he was in Humble Pie. Joe Walsh wins this match-up hands down - even if I base it solely on his use of the talkbox on Rocky Mountain Way. And then there's his expertise slide playing to consider which is superior to most everything from Frampton imo.

On a side note, Ritchie Blackmore should have been in the running.
I might have have chosen him over everyone on the list except Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix!
