When they sum up who Chuck Leavell has played with, they always forget to mention Chuck Berry.

This local coffee shop I used to go to in the late 2000s, it had a flyer announcing a stop on the then current tour of Chuck Berry, and among the musicians supporting Berry was Chuck Leavell. This was not to long after the Stones Bigger Bang tour, no later than 2009.

He played with him in St. Louis in 1986 as well. And very nicely, too.

I think half the eastern seaboard has played with Chuck Berry.
He'd show up for National TV shows and meet the band for the first time right there as he kicked it off.

I DO think and feel however, that Chuck played his paino overdubs very effectively on a few B&L tracks and did a really good job with them. Sprinkled some really nice atmosphere just right here and there; a good job w it I'd have to say, especially because I was not really expecting it to make much of a difference or add anything worthwhile but it did; the tracks are much better for it; have a better feel and wholeness...

That's why I always say he should play more organ with the Stones. His playing on Hail Hail Rock'n'Roll was excellent.

This is a link to the college's Wikipedia page. It has the pronunciation listed at the top but I don't think the fonts would paste correctly here. However, seeing in the college is in Maine and named after a former Massachusetts governor and was established in the late 1700's, I imagine that, considering the range of local dialects, by now, if you were to ask multiple people in the area, you'd probably hear a variety of pronunciations.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Those were local musicians hired from the musicians' union, where the musicians would change from show to show. The one involving Chuck Leavell was a regular touring outfit. He was specifically chosen by name.

I really enjoy Chuck's contributions in the studio with the Stones. There's a night and day difference in concert, though.

I live 10 minutes from Bowdoin College... Is Chuck coming to town? Has this already happened? I'd really like to corner him and ask him what's going on with the new album.........

He will presumably receive the degree at Bowdoin's spring graduation ceremony. Should be pretty easy to find out when that is.

Was surprised to run across a clip of Keith Urban doing Tumbling Dice on TV
with Chuck guesting on organ tho. He seems pretty happy here. Damn tough road band.

With the Stones Chuck plays what Keith and Ronnie don't : a synthesizer filling the void / the holes.
It is not the role of a piano or an organ on stage... like Stu or Nicky.

He never played a synthesiser with the Stones, as far as I know.

However, SOMETIMES he plays a wurlitzer or a Fender Rhodes.

I mean keyboard.
For the rest... he is no longer a musical complement (rock'n'roll piano) but a suppletive.

Here's a clip of Chuck Leavell playing on Mean Old World from the 1986 Hail! Hail! sessions. Leavell has an organ solo at 2:30. [www.youtube.com]
