I prefer Dance Little Sister and She's So Cold. That's really rock.

Bless Rod, he'd love to be Mick, i've always thought that but it makes me cringe when he comes on all Jaggery.

It's a few notes shy of embarrassing. The start of the 80's. How sad.

Had he not taken a detour through the lameness prior to this (Do ya think I'm sexy, etc.), it might have been easier to appreciate this more.
As it stands, it lacks the heart and soul, and comes across as a spoof and/or a misguided attempt to get back to where he once belonged.

Its like he and Ronnie, who look like brothers, sort of tried to be english versions of Mick and Keith (who tried to be American versions of themselves). Or tried to have their jobs. Rod was great in the early 70s but this is a joke.

what with the (butt)ugly jumpsuit and that haircut. Like some truckdrivers ridealong nephew, doing his popstar impression for a crowd of off season bikers on a trailerpark bbq.

When I saw Rod @ Caesar's he seemed very genuine in his interaction with the crowd. Like he would be fun to go have a beer with after the gig. I don't necessarily get that vibe off of Mick.

I bought this album when it came out, new ... and don't mind this song at all. But I do agree with some, this was basically the time period where he became a complete embarrassment, in terms of rock.

Once he started on the Tonight I'm Yours, and covering How Long soul-type ballads, he just started repeating himself. I can't listen to him anymore.

Calm down. The song has clearly used Stones songs as inspiration. Thats why i posted this. Please report me if the thread upsets you.

rod catches too much flack. if he had released music just from 1967-1977 he would be more of a legend and in that 10 year span he released as many great albums as the stones have released in a 50+ year career. most people on herewill tell you the stones have at max 9 great albums. in that 10 year span rod released 2 great albums with beck, 3 with the faces and 5 or 6 solo. again these are great albums not total albums released.

Nothing wrong with it. Yes, it's derivative. So were The Black Crowes. He had a good band at the time. Not a great one, but still good. I see nothing wrong with Stones-inspired music. And if you hate "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" then how do you handle "Miss You?" There but for the grace of a string synthesizer went the Stones.

A mediocre, upbeat rock tune. Nothing to get upset (or over the moon) about.

Stones influences? Only for hardcore conspiratorists like us grinning smiley

Opened up with that when I saw him in '84, great show.

Unfortunately it was the tour he started with Jeff Beck that made it all of 6 shows...and the show I went to was 7 shows beyond that. sad smiley

Hey,

They all took the disco turn or at least the 4 on the floor beat:

Rolling Stones - Miss You
Rod Stewart - Do Ya Think I'm Sexy
The Kinks - Superman
Pink Floyd (Yuk!) - Another Brick In The Wall
Queen - Another One Bites The Dust
Kiss - I Was Made For Loving You

etc.

Two exceptions: Led Zeppelin and The Who.
The questions is: were they sticking to their M.O. or
where they not capable of keeping up with the times...meaning...
they didn't have a 4 on the floor song in them...good question?

I think the Stones did it best...Miss You wasn't cheesy
and it still stands the test of time.

Agree about the Stones being best, but also think Pink Floyd's take is a winner - who can deny that otherworldly Gilmour guitar solo?
Have to admit when it first came out it was a bit off the wall (pardon the pun), but it has stood the test of time - the album as a whole is essential imo.
There is an original demo version without the 'disco' beat which is nice, but it kind of plods along aimlessly - still good but not quite as unique as it became.

with kiss though Stanley wrote the song to prove how easy it was to write a disco hit.

rod stewart has admitted his was a spoof of disco. that the song originally started out more similar to hot legs in style and that the song is not about him at all but its an imaginary couple
