How many times has Chuck Berry played with the Stones?

Does anyone know the answer to this? I'm referring to guest appearances during a Stones concert for a song or two.

Was he really a close friend of the band? In some of the pictures I've seen here, it appears that Keith is struggling to befriend him. The poses don't seem natural, they look staged.

Just like you say, and I don't have any inside knowledge, but just having seen and read what most of us probably have, I'd say it was a pretty one-sided relationship -- Keith trying to befriend his childhood hero.
It would have seemed like a natural idea for Chuck to open for the Stones and then come out and play on a few songs.

I don't think there were any.

Chuck Berry has never shared the stage with the Rolling Stones (...or has he?)

i believe chuck berry did open for the stones a few times on the 1969 usa tour, standing in for b. b. king. odd that he didn't join the stones for a song on those dates, but i guess they didn't really do that in those days.

Maybe not, he was too old and too black. But can you imagine a man with his ego join the Stones as 'special guest'.

Oh yeah man i see what you're saying. Plus in Chucks day there was no such thing as stadium shows, i think the Stones invented them lol.

John Lee Hooker and Bo Diddley did it. With great results in 1989 and 1994.

The gig(s) with Muddy Waters in 1978 and 1981 (officially released in 2012) are also classics.

Problem with Chuck Berry was most problably money. A shame really.

Individualy Keith, Ronnie payed tribute by playing live with Mr. Berry quite a lot of times. With various results.

I'm sure there will be screenings of 'Hail! Hail! Rock 'n Roll 'on TV pretty soon.
The non musical scenes of Keith and Chuck arguing are hilarious.

The finale of the TAMI show in 1964 was as close as it got.

I believe he wanted too much for an appearance for a STL PPV decades ago, so they said no

Right. They wanted to do "Little Queenie" with him in 1997.

It's HIGHLY disturbing to me that 1997 is considered "decades ago" (that was freshman year in college)

There wasn't a big enough stage in the world.
