I had the exact same thoughts as you. But while rediscovering it through the IORR sessions I regained respect for the song as well as the songwriting.
Had Mick sung it less campy/artificial I think I would have liked it better.
And I can reveal that we have a guitarist here on IORR who can play this one just as good as Taylor, if not better

I know a lot of people on here love this song so I will keep it brief. I always found this song to be self-indulgent, pretentious, and vapid both musically and lyrically.

An amazing song that sadly has never been played live and very probably never will now that Mick Taylor has, once again, parted comapny with the band.
Is it the longest solo ever on a Stones cut? Either that or Can't You Hear Me Knocking?
Time Waits For No One is one of those great, spine-tingling moments where the Stones push themselves out of their rock'n'roll comfort zone and into new unchartered territory.
I wonder how much Mick Taylor had to do with the song's construction as it has a Santana-like groove and solo and we know that MT was a major fan. That solo is one of Mick Taylor's finest moments, shimmering and dazzling as it reaches out into the ether. Real guitar hero stuff.
And the fade out with that fabulous Cuban style piano, reminiscent of Tito Puente - again, another Santana comparison.
I know the lyrics divide some fans but I think they are among Mick's very best, and possibly inspired by the Metaphysical poetry of Andrew Marvel and John Donne from the 17th century, that he will probably have learnt at school.
I'd also love to hear any out-takes of this.

A haunting testament to the evanescence and impermanence of everything. Although the lyrics and the melody are lovely, and Ray Cooper and Nicky Hopkins bring a lot to this track, it is (of course) Mick Taylor’s incredible guitar-work that takes this song to a whole other level. Taylor creates a soaring sonic tapestry that transports and ultimately leaves the listener dazzled beyond belief. His soloing here is one of his finest moments on a Rolling Stones record, if not his finest ever.
The message of TWFNO is of course profoundly sad, yet it is tinged with hope. Knowing that hours are like diamonds, and watching them fly, we can still take solace in the wisdom of appreciating simply (to paraphrase another track from this era) how good it is to be alive.

That's a beautiful song, composition actually. There's literally nothing I don't like about it, and Taylor at his best. No need to compare him to Santana. He was in a league of his own here.

This is sleazy-era Stones (a very important period to their legacy, more than one might think) ballad or slowtempo - just before their afro-danger era (1975-1976). One of the best sentimental Stones numbers. Fantastic.

Been a favorite of mine since its release.

Love it, but wonder if any single person every understood all the lyrics just by listening before seeing them printed. Mick doesn't exactly enunciate like Grace Kelly in this one.

To me, knowing this song for decades, it sits in a China cabinet,
a polished, valuable piece in the collection,
not taken out much,
as it has a stark, dust of despair, yet Mick Taylor's spiritual clarity when he plays, it stays, and you don't forget, ever.
This song came blaring thru quality speakers on as I was standing in a slow, slow morning line at the RS's merchandise truck San Diego Zip tour. I actually gasped, put my face in the sun, and... can't even explain/ put to words.
But my world tilted. Suddenly it made sense. What an amazing high.
I waited 35+ years to stand in that line. Slayed some dragons to get there.
