Rolling Stone, Consequence of Sound and Pitchfork report that Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit died Sunday at 78 from pneumonia.

Great, great band, very underrated. Tago Mago is a master piece. I loved them.

I only got into Can in the last five years or so, when the old catalog was reissued. Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki can be an acquired taste, but their jams cook. Liebezeit's motorik beat was the backbone of their sound.

A man with a unique rhythmic cyclical drumming vision that would influence modern music for generations to come. Jaki casts a long shadow into the future and leaves an immense legacy.

Heard them in the early 70ies.
