OT": Replacement for Clemons

Will Clarence Clemons be replaced in Bruces band.

Just guessing, but maybe they'll deliberately avoid replacing him with one man and take the Miami Horns on the road with them from here on.

Assuming the Stones are done with large-scale touring, Bobby Keyes could be a good fit: big lungs, pedigree, etc. But he's almost 68, and there might be issues between him and Bruce if substance abuse is still a problem for him.

DC sax god Ron Holloway would be an interesting choice. He's certainly got the chops, but may feel confined in the E Street Band.

IS IT "E STREET" WITHOUT THE BIG MAN?

9/26/2011

Bruce Springsteen and the remaining members of his E Street Band will be gathering soon to discuss their future in the wake of saxophonist Clarence Clemons' June 18 death, according to guitarist Steve Van Zandt. While attending last week's premiere of Paul McCartney's ballet "Ocean's Kingdom" in New York City, Van Zandt told the Associated Press that Clemons' loss -- which follows the death of keyboardist Danny Federici in 2008 -- is "a void we will never replace but added that the E Street Band will probably carry on in some form "until the end, because that's what we do." Van Zandt did not say exactly when the band meeting would take place. Springsteen himself will perform as part of a Robin Hood Foundation benefit on October 1 in New York to celebrate Sting's 60th birthday.

One could have asked "is it E Street without Danny Federici?" Even if he wasn't Bruce's main onstage foil for many years, Federici was the E Street Band member who went back the farthest with Bruce, having played in bands with him since 1969.

What are they supposed to do, pack it in and wait tables? Musicians play music. Of course, the E Street Band will be different without Clarence. But the surviving members have enough musical sense and respect, both for Clarence and the band which has built up so much good will over decades, to carry on, as a band, in a way that honors his memory.

On the other hand, since the surviving members are a bit short, they could become the Wee Street Band. tongue sticking out smiley

Is Springsteen specifically known to dislike "drugs" in general, like for instance Ted Nugent, or could Bobby Keys' habits, so to speak, be something of a problem whatever the situation and context?

Springsteen is known to dislike the use of recreational drugs by his band members, though he tolerated Clarence's weed smoking in recent years. The CEO (given the expansion of the E Street Band, he's more than just a Boss) is known to be a stern task master.

Nugents anti drug image is just a schtick.

Might I suggest Alto Reed, as Seger is reaching the end of his tour of career later this year?

Very much like Big Man - great player, onstage foil, cool dresser, etc.

I think that'll be the most likely solution.
