RIP Rick Parfitt of Status Quo
Posted by: Nate ()
Date: December 24, 2016 17:22

Rick Parfitt has passed away.

Rick Parfitt, guitarist and singer in the long-running British rock group Status Quo, died Saturday following complications from a shoulder injury he sustained in a fall. He was 68.

"We are truly devastated to have to announce that Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt has passed away," Parfitt's family and Status Quo manager Simon Porter said in a joint statement Saturday.

"He died in hospital in Marbella, Spain as a result of a severe infection, having been admitted to hospital on Thursday evening following complications to a shoulder injury incurred by a previous fall."

Very sad news; I loved Rick. Status Quo are one of the greatest UK rock bands ever, and the power behind thise blistering 70s albums in particular was Rick. Incredible guitarist and a wonderful talent. He will be missed.

Skipped the Quo on the last tour, because it's not Status Quo without him.
Already missed before he passed away.

R.I.P. Rick.

Sad news. Saw them twice around 1990/91. Always fun live. 2016 has been a brutal year for losing musicians.

How is it I've never heard of this group or this guy? I'm soon to be 59 years old, living in America.

Looked up some stuff, pretty good music. Lots of covers it seems.

First band I saw headline at the legendary Glasgow Apollo was the Quo in the mid-seventies
. Great memories and an introduction to a lifestyle I still enjoy. Was good to see you, Rick.

I'm pretty sure the Quo were the final act to play the old Appollo too - in 1984? Are you a local?

Really sad. Parfitt and Rossi were a powerful and charismathic duo, and Quo was a pretty fun band, with a lot of catchy rock 'n roll and rock songs.

Also Parfitt was a very humble rock star.

That's one of the reasons to appreciate the fact that the Stones are still doing things and playing music. The age doesn't forgive and even the rock legends must go to an end.

Rest in peace, Rick.

Best wishes to those who are left behind.

Saw him once in Amsterdam. Fun is the best way to describe his attitude on stage.
He was a good guitar player, certainly, but most of all he was having fun and radiated
that to the audience.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

The year that just keeps giving. Not.

Loved seeing Quo live - good musicians having a good time.

R.I.P. Rick.

I've seen him 4x with Status Quo (= one of the ultimate best live bands in the world).

One of the best shows, I've seen in the 21st Century was with the Frantic Four in 2014!

RIP Rick Parfitt

Never have. Like I said, I'm 59 early next year, born in L.A., moved to Chicago mid-60's, came back to L.A. mid 70's been here in Southern California ever since. I consider myself to be a fairly knowledgeable person on all things rock and roll and music in general but seriously and sincerely, never have come across this person or the band.

RIP Rick. I know who he and Quo are but I don't know their songs either. I do know Rockin All Over The World because I think John Fogerty did it too. I live near Vancouver and I never heard Quo on the radio or seen any videos of them on tv. I don't recall them ever playing in Vancouver, at least since I've been going to concerts since the early 80's. I believe they were in the Do They Know It's Christmas video?

So sad. One of the greatest rock bands of all time. One of the very first LP's I got in the early 70's was Piledriver. I was about 11-12 at the time.I still have the very same LP and it spinns on my turntable many times every year. For example just now....
We were several guys in the same age and all of us had very long hear. We used to play Piledriver / Quo / Hello albums on high volume and swing our airguitars and long hair just like Parfitt / Rossi / Lancaster

The Quo never made it big in the US, but are you sure you didn't see the phenomenal opener on Live Aid in 1985? That was Status Quo. They kicked it off with the best Rock'n'Roll possible at Wembley.

They have some covers, but mainly their own material.

Status Quo have sold more than 100 million albums.
