These recordings were made in April 1969.
Mick Taylor didn't join until June 1969.

I always liked it-- bought it when it 1st came out-- believe I paid $ 3.99 for it !

Bought it when it came out. I was around 13 and just starting to immerse myself into all things Stones related. I saw it in the Stones bin at the store and there went my allowance! I asked the dude at the record store why it was a bit cheaper than other albums and his answer was "because it sucks, it's not a real album". Bought it anyway an played it about twice.

Some years later my college roommate saw it in my collection and hadn't heard it. We blazed up and put it on...and loved it! To this day I pop it in on occasion and enjoy it. Boudoir Stomp is basically a Midnight Rambler prototype, Blow With Ry opens with a great interplay between Ry & Charlie and features some fun, improvised vocals and some tasty licks from Ry. The mash-up of It Hurts Me Too and Dylan's Pledging My Time is decent, if a bit pedestrian. But, the album is basically "Edward"'s show, and his playing alternates between brilliant and wacky!

Overall, a curiosity and a fun throwback to that era that I haven't overplayed! I am going to dig it out now, thanks for posting the article!

I probably paid about £2.50

The cover's quite fun...so money well spent.

This was the last LP on Rolling Stones Records for which White Label MONO promo LPs were sent to radio stations. They are rare as hen's teeth.

Where was Brian? Probably hanging around at Cotchford. There are pictures from April with Suki; he doesn't look too healthy.

Missing in action.
Or absent without leave.

Or just really really late, like Keith.

P'raps but if the band were really auditioning Cooder for his job it might have been a bit awkward had he been there.

Yes, I know that but an informal jam at someone's house is very different to a recording session in a studio.

Informal? Maybe, but they have mics st up, so most likely recording too.

I don't think they needed to do any sneaking with regards to Ry, that they all played together say's a lot.

I think the thing of him maybe joining/auditioning has been overstated and it hasn't even been stated that much. grinning smiley

Given the situation at the time and given Brian's moves around many an instrument, I see no need for it to be an issue. Ry playing in Redlands isn't really any different to having him playing in Olympic.

Always a fun listen. Cool that you can hear the Stones influences without it being a Stones album. It's missing that signature Stones sound. But what's there is still very good.

What I never understood is that Charlie is given a composer credit but not Bill! Don't forget on one occasion he plays something unique: a bass solo!
