Ronnie's 'I got my own album to do'. Best solo effort from a Stone!
Posted by: DiscoVolante ()

This album is great! It's practically a Stones album since both Keef and Jagger are co-writing and playing on it. I believe Ronnie and Jagger wrote IORR and 'I can feel the fire' from this album together and simply traded the credits. And you also got the Faces including Rod Stewart, George Harrison and Mick T on it!
I think this album is way better than both Talk is cheap, Wandering spirit and all other solo efforts from a Stone. Truly a lost gem!

Good album indeed although isnt it technically a 'solo album by a Face' as opposed to a 'solo album by a Stone' ? spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Well, a soon-to-be Stone! But yeah, I believe the album title is a nod to Rod Stewart and his solo career. You can see (and hear) a red line where Ronnie were heading.

Let's not forget the brilliant Crotch Music.

I didn't find the studio version with Ronnie and Taylor together, but here's the live version with the First Barbarians.

Fusion! It sounds like something Jeff Beck would do smoking smiley it's a shame the Stones never touched this kind of stuff.

Definitely one of Ronnie's better efforts. Gimme Some Neck is still my favorite though, rough sound and all.

Ronnie's last album I Feel Like Playing is also a keeper!

On this, I will agree! Even though it was made before he was in the group. Great record.

I think keith's Talk is Cheap just pips it... but it's a great album none the less.

This album can't stand up against Talk Is Cheap and Wandering Spirit IMO.
It's too loose and unfocused, although there are good numbers.

Ronnie's solo output has been the most consistent out of all the Stones. There's always something of value on each of Ronnie's albums. Every one of them.

Agreed, Stone or Face, an album that lives long in my memory. Really enjoyed it.

Love that record, and while I'd argue that "I Can Feel The Fire" sounds more energized and ALIVE than anything on IORR, I still maintain that Ronnie's next album, "NOW LOOK" that he made with Bobby Womack (and was released during the TOTA '75 when he was billed as the Stones' "guest" guitarist ) is a more focused and thematically consistent album that seamlessly combines American R&B and English RnR in a more authentic and satisfying way that any Stone (or Face) had ever done before (or since!)

The album closer, "I've Got A Feeling" is probably Ronnie's most affecting vocal and a real buried gem.

I like all Ronnie's solo offerings, this is by far my favourite - the least favourite being 1234.

Great album not known to the youth today.

But the best by a Stone?

To each his own but, Slide On This/Talk Is Cheap are a weapon of mass instruction.

I agree 100% Justin. IGMOATD, Now Look remain my favorites, but Ketih's first solo effort was right up there.

Yeah and what I love is Mick Taylor is ALL OVER Rons first two solo albums(mainly cause so much of the second LP used leftovers from the first one!)

I don't know if you can call any of Ron Wood's solo albums difficult, lol, but "Now Look" is the one that takes a while to sink in. The songs are not automatically loveable, but ultimately some of the best. Love that album.
There isn't a RW album I don't love. Although the booze ran right over "Not for Beginners".
It took an ex-fulltime poster here to show me that "1234" was tops.

Love "I Can Feel the Fire"! Jagger's vocals are so energetic on this one.
Ronnie always had a great feel for not only the groove, but real melody and minor chords, more so than Keith...

It's one of my most-played albums, especially Far East Man. Fantastic, beautiful track.

I was just listening to "I Can Feel the FIre" and you can really hear the sort of soulful, ramshackle vibe of "Some Girls" and ER. I've always believed that Ronnie contributed more to the Stones late 70s-Tattoo You era than alot of people give him credit for.
Love the guy.

I love this album - Sure the One You Need and Mystifies Me being the stand out tracks for me. But the whole thing is a great listen - perfect for putting on with some warm up drinks before a night out....

Without a shadow of a doubt. It's got by far strongest songs but Talk Is Cheap is right behind it.
