The band is:
Magos Herrera-vocals (Mexico)
Jozsef Balazs-piano (Budapest)
Alex Kautz-drums (Brazil)
Ed Howard-bass (Ed has played with a lot of great jazz artists including Shirley Horn and Roy Haynes)
Tim Ries-saxophones and arrangements

They are filming the night as part of an HBO documentary. Tim has been performing with a group from Budapest called The East Gipsy Band for many years. There is a filmmaker from Budapest who has been following the group around and filming them in many cities around the world. She will be at Trumpets. The pianist who is playing with Tim at Trumpets is part of the East Gipsy Band.

Please come and enjoy the music, the food and be part of the filming of this group. We will play original music, Brazilian and Mexican standards and maybe a Stones song or 2.

I have seen Tim a couple of times. Always with a great band. If you got the chance, go and see him.

Trumpets is a small jazz club/ restaurant in northern New Jersey. It only holds around fifty people at its twenty or so two-person tables plus the bar. My friend and I arrived around 7:30 and sat at one of the tables a few feet away from the band area.

By the time Tim and his international band came on for their first set, the tables were mostly filled. The music that they played was a blend of jazz / smooth / latin. The players complemented one another ... The pianist, Jozsef Balazs from Budapest, -- who sat with his large back towards us -- was fantastic. Drummer Alex Kautz on drums (Brazil) and Ed Howard (USA?) on bass were tight.

Vocalist Magos Herrera's (Mexico) breathy voice weaved with Tim's saxophone, as did [---] sitting in on harmonica.

Very fun ... Not rock. Lotta roll. We stayed for the second set. They played one Jagger/Richards tune!
