NFC West isn't the worst division in the NFL, at least not this year. This year the NFC East is ridiculously bad. The Dallas Cowboys are leading that division with a 7-5 record, and their record makes them look better than they actually are. They've only played 4 games against teams with a winning record. And they lost to Arizona today, who are one of the dogs of the NFC West.

agreed. the cowboys are a shit team. how can anyone not see it? they haven't had a win against any team going to the playoffs

The coach included, how about him icing his own kicker?

GO NINERS!smileys with beer
NFC West champions!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good job Niners but that is the equivalent of 3rd place in other divisions.
10-2 is not a third place team. 5-7 is. You know all about that in Buffalo don't you?

Yes we do. The Niners have had a hell of a run, but who have they beaten?

Seattle
Tampa Bay
Arizona
Cleveland
Cincinnati
Detroit
St. Louis
Washington

Only the Eagles (who stink this year) and the Giants were solid wins.

They got thumped by the Ravens and Cowboys.

Easy wins waiting still against:

Arizona
Seattle
St. Louis

Let's see a good win at home against Pittsburgh and I'll be impressed.

They do have 1, against the 49ers in OT. But to be fair that was Week 2 and the 49ers were not yet really looking like the team they are now. All of their other wins (and some of their losses as well) are to below .500 teams like Miami, Washington, Seattle, Buffalo, St. Louis, etc.

It's funny though, I live in Dallas and people have been going crazy over this "winning streak", conveniently overlooking the fact that they have been playing the absolute worst teams in the entire league. Today I keep hearing people saying that Arizona was a "trap game". A "trap game" is when a good team doesn't take a bad team seriously because they are coming off a big win, or looking forward to the next game. The truth is that these were two equally matched terrible teams, it wasn't a "trap game". If they weren't taking this game seriously then they were stupid, because it could have been a key game for taking control of the division with the Giants playing (and losing) to Green Bay. Losing yesterday to the Cardinals keeps the Giants right in the hunt for the division title.

the jets don't have any good wins really either but jets fans know the playoffs seem to bring out the best in the team the last 2 years

Re: OT ~ NFL begins tonight

The Dallas Cowboys should be 10-2 right now. They're definitely not a "crap" team. They would not be leading their division, two games above .500 if they were a "crap" team. We are talking about the NFL here.

In week 2 the 49ers were not looking like the team they are now?? Come on,it would have been hard to look like a 10-2 team in week 2 for almost any team. The 49ers won by 16 in week 1. They won on the road the next two games.Their next home game after the Dallas game was a 45 point victory. The team is the same now as they were then, they might even be more weak now considering injuries.

I'll go through each of the Cowboys' losses :

1) @ the N.Y. Jets : OUTPLAYED THEM except for crucial mistakes - should have won : the largest 4th quarter blown lead by the team in decades, maybe longer > Romo had some late problems but, that would not have mattered if it wasn't for the blocked punt for a touchdown. There was a complete breakdown on the punt protection line, probably due to the short training camp. A guy came through the middle, untouched. How many times does that happen?? The problem has been fixed.

2) Detroit @ Home : OUTPLAYED THEM - should have won - the largest blown lead in NFL history by a home team - They were ahead by 24 with 27 minutes left in the game. The loss was mainly due to not running the ball after taking that 24 point second half lead. One of the crucial interceptions was due to Laurent Robinson being new to the team and not being on the same page as Romo. Both problems have been fixed.

3) @ New England : OUTPLAYED THEM - should have won - They lost this one because of tentative / bad play calling. They had 1st and goal with the score tied 13-13 late in the 4th quarter and settled for a field goal !! They didn't take one shot at the end zone in that situation despite 1 on 1 coverage on Dez Bryant. Also, when they got the ball back with a 16-13 lead with less than 3 minutes left, they didn't go for the 1st down that would have won the game. They settled for a punt. They should have tried an end around or a screen pass.

4) @ Philadelphia : legitimate loss

5) @ Arizona : OUTPLAYED THEM - not by much but, still - should have won - They should have won it @ the end of the 4th quarter. They didn't call 1 of their TWO remaining time-outs with 21 seconds left in the 4th quarter and the ball @ the Cardinals' 31 yard line. They settled for a 49 yard field goal attempt. They should have called time-out with 21 seconds left or so and then run the ball to pick-up a few more yards and then called their last time-out to set up a higher percentage field goal attempt. Also, there was a foolish, blatant pass interference penalty in overtime on an 8 yard pass pattern with Arizona facing 2nd and 19 , backed-up in their own territory. Even if the guy caught the ball,it would have been 3rd and long with the Cowboys having a great chance to get the ball back in outstanding field position for the win.

Maybe they should have lost the game @ Washington. Like I said, they should be 10-2 . They don't need to apologize for any other win besides the road game @ Wasington.

- Miami is on fire. They had not allowed a single touchdown in their previous 3 games before playing Dallas, winning all 3. They also demolished a team which was leading its division (Oakland) yesterday. They gave the Giants a strong run for their money on the road the game before their 3 game win streak.

- Seattle has been playing pretty well lately. Dallas dominated them in that win.

- Dallas also dominated the Rams. The Rams then beat the Saints.

- Dallas dominated Buffalo.

The Cowboys have not been playing that well lately in large part because of 3 key injuries :

1) Miles Austin : He will be back soon. Look what he did to the 49ers. Dallas has not had its top 3 wide receivers healthy at the same time for almost the whole season. That should change in the next 2 or 3 weeks,if not sooner.

2) C.B. Mike Jenkins : He missed the recent games when the Cowboys ended up with narrow victories. It was just his first game back yesterday against the Cardinals. His play should continue to improve down the stretch as he gets back in the flow.

3) F.B. Tony Fiammetta : When he has played, the Cowboys have almost always had huge days running the football. He should be back before the end of the regular season.

With those guys returning to action, and Dallas learning from past mistakes, they are anything but a "crap" team.

looks like excuses to me. dallas leads the division because they have a soft schedule while the giants have to play basically every division leader in a row and the eagles and the skins suck. 7-5 in any other division is at least 2nd place and in the AFC there are numerous 7-5 teams fighting for a wildcard spot

The Cowboys are the biggest media whores in the NFL. I've lived in Houston all my life and I have a profound aversion to all things Cowboy.
Even when they suck, they're prime time. The Texans are 9-3, have lost four major players to injuries this season, have the #1 defense, the best running back tandem in the NFL (Foster and Tate) and we now have a 3rd string QB! And we're still going to the playoffs...
(We've had a "soft" schedule the last 4-week stretch, but no one has a softer schedule than the Patriots, so that's always a moot point. That's football.)
And we still can't get the kind of press Dallas gets.
Cowboy trainwrecks, like yesterday's, are always fun to watch though.

don't think thats true either. every new york jets game has been on TV here in virginia except week 2. the cowboys games were passed over numerous times this year even though they are in the same division as the "local" team the redskins. the jets haven't been to a superbowl in 40 years. the only reason why cowboys games get passes over is because in the last 15 years they have won 1 playoff game so no one cares anymore.

Do you recognize the fact that the Giants and Dallas play the exact same schedule except for 2 games. Dallas played Detroit which was a loss anyway. Dallas will play Tampa Bay. Meanwhile, the Giants played New Orleans and Green Bay. That's the only difference in the two teams' schedules.

How well did the Giants do in San Fran. and in Washington against the Redskins ??

so you are saying detroit and tampa bay are in the same class as green bay and new orleans? not even close. the teams they play are the basically the same but not the SCHEDULE. the give the cowboys a few hard teams followed by the bad teams. the giants played the pats, 49'ers, eagles, saints and green bay in a row and then dallas. how many other teams basically played 5 division leaders in a row?

My point was just that Dallas has played a cream puff schedule, and still managed to only be 7-5. And they haven't dominated all of these crappy teams. They beat Seattle by 10, not bad, but not "domination". The first time they played the Redskins they won by 2 points, the second time by a field goal in overtime, after the Redskins did Dallas a favor and missed their field goal that would have won the game. They beat Miami by 1 point. Not to mention Philadelphia dominating Dallas. I would mark up a bad team winning to every dog having a day, much the same way St. Louis beat New Orleans, but for a crappy team to DOMINATE Dallas the way they did is unbelievable.

Dallas isn't a playoff team. They might make it to the playoffs, but they aren't a playoff team. They have a schedule that makes them look much better than they are, and if you really believe they don't suck, then you're going to be disappointed come playoff time. But Cowboys fans have become accustomed to that in the past 10-15 years.

Re: OT ~ NFL begins tonight

1996 and 2009. those are the only 2 years the cowboys have won a playoff game in the last 15 years.

don't think thats true either. every new york jets game has been on TV here in virginia except week 2. the cowboys games were passed over numerous times this year even though they are in the same division as the "local" team the redskins. the jets haven't been to a superbowl in 40 years. the only reason why cowboys games get passes over is because in the last 15 years they have won 1 playoff game so no one cares anymore.

Um.... Dallas plays all but 2 games a year on Fox (except for nationally broadcast Sunday night, Monday night games, and NFL Network games).

The Jets play all but 2 games a year on CBS (except for nationally broadcast Sunday night, Monday night games and NFL Network games).

The Jets and Dallas can only be in competition with each other for a broadcast of a 1:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. (eastern time) game four times a year MAX. It's almost always less than that due to the schedule. For example,if the Jets are playing 1 of their 2 games for the year on FOX,Dallas might have their bye week or they might be playing a nationally broadcast night game and vice versa. Flex scheduling has not changed this for either team to date.

The Cowboys, most likely, are not broadcast often in your area because of the Redskins being the local team get the Fox game (or one of them if Fox has a doubleheader that given week).

Dallas almost always gets the maximum # of nationally broadcast night games (Five,I believe) and they get the best T.V. ratings for those games.

The Cowboys are 1 of the 2 most valuable franchises in professional sports and it's not because "nobody cares". People usually love them or hate them.

What else could Dallas do any better versus those teams like Seattle, the Rams, and Buffalo ?? They dominated them well enough. It's not college football. No NFL team can hang 78 points on any other NFL team .

Dallas had Seattle easily. It was 23-6 and Seattle added a garbage time meaningless touchdown @ the end. The Giants,on the other hand, lost to Seattle @ home. Maybe that's why they're not in 1st place.

Cowboy trainwrecks, like yesterday's, are always fun to watch though.

well where i live the jets games were not always on tv until this season. before it was only when they played washington, dallas, the patriots, ravens or steelers were they on tv unless it was a sunday, thursday or monday game

give it up. dallas has won 2 playoff games total in the last 15 years and to people my age (less than 30) we don't care about them unless you are a fan of them. they have been a piss poor joke of a team every year that i can remember watching football. winning 2 playoff games since 1995 is laughable for a team you keep defending as good. more than likely if they do win the division they'll not a win a playoff game this year either.

looks like excuses to me. dallas leads the division because they have a soft schedule while the giants have to play basically every division leader in a row and the eagles and the skins suck. 7-5 in any other division is at least 2nd place and in the AFC there are numerous 7-5 teams fighting for a wildcard spot

My main point was that (no matter how you try to twist it) Dallas only stands to gain a 1 GAME advantage in the standings over the Giants based on the difference in the schedules of the two teams.

Dallas lost to Detroit just as the Giants lost to Green Bay. There was no advantage in the standings gained by either team there.

You may say that accounts for Dallas' one game lead but,Dallas would be in first place anyway because they hold the tiebreaker over the Giants. The only way that the Giants can get the tiebreaker back is by sweeping the 2 head to head games. If Dallas beats the Giants this week, the division race is basically over. If the Giants lose to Dallas this week, the only way the Giants can win the division would be if the Cowboys lost their last three games AND if the Giants won their last three games.

14 out of 16 games are against the exact same opponents. 12 out of 14 if you throw out the 2 games where the Giants and Cowboys face each other.

Those are the FACTS of the situation.

the facts of the situation are there is a difference between playing detroit followed by miami and the rams or whatever the cowboys schedule was vs. playing basically the entire playoff field in a row. those games are harder, more draining and mentally tougher. the eagles should play basically the same teams as dallas and the giants and according to espn the eagles had the easiest schedule this year out of any team in the nfl. if you haven't notice btw detroit have fallen off the face of the world and will be lucky to get a wildcard spot

just look at 2000-now dallas has won 1 playoff game. thats garbage and no team is ever worried to play them anymore. notre dame has ever home game broadcast on an exclusive deal with NBC. does that make notre dame a good team? no. they haven't been good in a long time. UCLA has the most championships in college basketball. do you see a big media hype around UCLA now? no because for the last 30 years they haven't done anything so no one cares. glad dallas is able to hang on to their drunk, redneck, gun carrying fanbase that supports them because of what they did in the 70's and early 90's and not what they've done in the last 15 years.

The Giants had basically the same stretch of games earlier in the season. There's that type of a trade-off when you're talking 14 out of 16 games in common. By your logic, they should have stockpiled those wins but, they didn't. They lost @ home to Seattle, they lost against the Redskins. Even if the Giants weren't mentally drained as you claim, they would not have beaten New Orleans or S.F. or Green Bay. They gave Green Bay their best shot.It wouldn't have helped if they played Miami the week before.
