Great pics, thanks for sharing them. I was able to see the Rolling Stones in Cleveland a few years later in 1981 I believe..

Oh yeah! Sweet! GREAT post! Looked like a fun show for the guitar players, lots of smiles. Is that a young Chuck Leavell on the keyboards? Man they make em good in Ohio ...mmmm

I've never seen Mick's lips as big as in that first picture! Looks like he's going to suck up the microphone.

Thank you, thank you. I was there. I distinctly remember when Mick picked up that flag that was thrown at him. He didn't know what to do at first and then he twirled it like a cheerleader for a while. I remember all the shoes and clothing that were thrown at him. There was that 'tongue' that jutted out from the stage that he danced on, but I don't remember Keith or Ronnie ever joining him out there. I have a couple shots from that show. I see you had a hard time finding Bill too!

First thing I realized, when I saw those pics: back then they were a WORKING band!

What was Charlie doing standing up? They did not start a drum loop for Sympathy did they?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

I really like the one where Mick is bent over the stage .....all those clothes ,that's crazy !

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

GREAT PHOTOS but this particular show has been discussed extensively and most of those who were there, including me, say it was quite possibly the worst Rolling Stones performance in the history of the band. I certainly have never seen nor heard them worse, be it live, on video or tape, than they were on the that ugly, rainy Saturday.

i'm glad you all enjoyed the photos! R, i entirely agree with your assessment of the performance. they were seriously bad that day. exactly one week later they gave a GREAT performance in Chicago. Chic 78, Akron 72, and Pittsburg 99 were the best i ever saw. would probably state that Whip and Rambler from Pitt 99 were the 2 best performances i ever saw in person by ANY band. you will get no argument from me that Cle 78 may have been the worst performance in the history of the band. the second worst i ever saw was opening night Philadelphia 1981. Cleve 78 was FAR worse. FAR. it was a fun day for me, though. was thoroughly entertained that day.

Funny, I was at both those shows. Philly 81 was bad, big time. Talk about bad weather.
I've seen these guys over 100 times. Me and my buddies still talk about how great that 78 Cleveland show was. Some Girls had been out just a couple of weeks and they played, what, about half that album live that day(?).
Rough around the edges, no doubt, but that was the charm of that tour, at least to us.
I was right in front, center stage, what a mob. Cloths flying everywhere.
I have 15 minutes of silent color super-8 footage of that show. Including the part where Mick marches back and forth twirling that American flag like he was in a high school band. Hilarious.
You can see Jerry Hall moving about on stage beind the band at one point. Cool footage of Stu, too, during set-up.
Amazing I was able to keep the camera as steady as I did. Though during the first song, Let It Rock (still my favorite opener), my camera gets banged around pretty bad.
One of my all time favorite Stones shows - Cleveland '78

Thank you josepi for sharing these great photos.

great photo's!! was just as close in chicago july 8th but on woody's side, which is nice because you can see into charlie's kit. mick wore the same black pants too, in 90 degree heat.
very overpowering to be that close and have what seems like 200 people at the show.
never did get why they went on in late afternoon and were done over an hour before the sun went down, but "so what" as well. great tour!
