The worst must surely be this decade.

The answer is the ' 60s, with the year 1965 as the absolute highlight.

Consider the bookends of the decade: Let It Bleed in 1969, and London Calling in 1979.

The 60s.

More classics were released in the few years between 1970 and 1973 than ever before or since. The Rolling Stones, The Who, David Bowie, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple (to name a few) – all released their greatest albums in those years. Hard to compete with this list IMO:

The early 60s let the 60s down. Things didn't really get exciting till around 64/65.

The mid 70s sucked big time.

You can forget the 80s although there were a few interesting things that came out of the original Ibiza and Chicago house music scene.

90s here in the UK were interesting because of Brit Pop.

00s onwards - the end of music as we know it.

So I'd have to say 64-74.

The 60's

Both the 60s and the 70s had ups and downs. I would say as some of you, 1965-1975 would be the best "decade".

Most people refer to a decade as 50's, 60's, 70's, etc.

Agreed! And the Eighties was the worst decade musically.

Well, if it's for any 10 year period, I'd go with 1963-1972.

Otherwise, it's clearly the 60s. Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Hendrix, Doors, The Who, The Kinks, even Led Zeppelin...that's just scratching the surface.

Depends where you live, Olly. In the UK, London Calling was released in December 1979, in the US, 1980.

The 60s, although there were some pathetic releases here and there, like Neil Sedaka and the tame "As Is" album by Manfred Mann. The 70s were more galvanized and less charming, and introduced by the tame Gilbert O` Sullivan in 1972.

1968-1978. OK so that's 11 years but whatever...
