At this stage in the game it was a good album that could have been trimmed some what and produced better (ie not so loud)

Well, you can believe what you want. I know what I meant - I was engaging in some playful banter - so what some individual who calls himself "FreeBird" believes or doesn't believe is not something I am going to spend any more time thinking about.

For all it's shortcomings ABB was still a huge leap forward from those 4 new numbers they laid on us in '02 IMHO.

The downside of "A Bigger Bang" is its squashed sound quality full of digital hiss, Mick's tendency to shout the lyrics in a failed attempt to drown out the band and some weak song choices including the lead single "Streets Of Love" which is a combined rewrite of "Out Of Tears" and another 90s era ballad in its studio version.

However, it did get developed further for the live version, thereby degrading the studio version to a mere demo. And an album by a band as influential as the Rolling Stones should never consist of demos but fully realized versions because it's the album versions that will live on in the end, not the live versions.

The up side of "A Bigger Bang" is the fact it contains some very good songs that both showcase the Stones as rooted in their own tradition and history and as a well integrated part of the musical culture of the mid-2000s.

"She Saw Me Coming" (that should have been the 1st single), "Rough Justice", "Let Me Down Slow", "Infamy", "Biggest Mistake" (but the album should have had the long, full mix really), "We Don't Wanna Go Home" (b-side of sorts that should have been the album closer), "Under the Radar" (b-side of sorts that should have also been on the album itself), "Dangerous Beauty" (classic Stones lyrics that are spot on), "Rain Fall Down" (I don't like it, but it's been their last hit to date), "Driving Too Fast" (would have deserved to have a 3rd verse and benefitted greatly from some more Keith touches and a breathier mastering).

Despite being not the best album of the post-reunification (1989) period of the band, it is also not the worst: that dubious honour goes to "Steel Wheels".

Now here's to the next Rolling Stones CD of all-new songs! Cheers!

Indeed. Plus taken off "Look What..." and maybe one other. They have this tendency to "fill" a CD.

A bad album except the brilliant LAUGH I NEARLY DIED. A perfect Jagger song with great guitars licks interaction. Nice chorus and a bit of hand clapping which could remind a kind of Exile gospel.

I'd been so focused on the similarity between "Under the Radar" and "Child of the Moon" for the past six years that I didn't realize that I could hear a bit that's reminiscent of The Black Crowes' "Twice as Hard" in there as well.

Not sure it is underrated...a lot of people bash anything because it is new.

For me, best since Undercover for sure.

for some unknown to myself reasons I like this album even more than Tatoo You (and all of them since it )

It's not underrated...if anything, it's overrated.

It's abysmal.

It's a decent album with some good songs. There are way too many songs on it, though.

The problem is that we expect so much more from our boys

IMO, there is nothing wrong with songs like:

Rough Justice
Let Me Down Slow
She Saw Me Coming
This Place Is Empty
Biggest Mistake
Laugh, I Nearly Died
Dangerous Beauty

Add two more killer tracks (NO, not Under The Radar and We Don't Wanna Go Home!), and we would be praising it, instead of bashing it...

Remember the early Seventies and the rating of Exile: Only a few people did buy this "strange" album. Time is changing, some people will forget ABB very soon, others have forgotten it oder never known it. And than, by chance, suddenly, in an unexpected moment, one of these songs do touch your heart an soul, and you will be obsessed.

For me, I like Streets Of Love, Biggest Mistake, Rain Fall Down and other tracks, too. But listen to all these 16 (18) tracks all the way through was very hard for my nerves, it was a kind of unbearable.

And as I said above, in an unexpected moment, I just watched CSI (?), I was caught by It Won't Take Long, indescribable.

So I can say: music has to do much with moments and feelings. Most of us will never forget the song was played in that moment we did our first kiss oder we were making love the very first time.

And perhaps that's the reason why so many people, and stonesfans too, are trying to go back to such indescribable moments, to get that feel again and again.

And perhaps that's the reason why so many people will live in the past, reminiscing the good old times.

And perhaps that's the reason people can not accept new music, new albums and some new experiments.

Poor people, who lost their youth and can't burn with curiosity anymore ...

Me, I'm 60 years old, but sometimes I feel much younger than some teenies or twentysomething, and I try to stay this way.
