Loved his voice...
This song - his voice, the music. the words - is perfection. Can anyone listen to this without feeling happy?

Awful, awful news. His music was a gift to the world. That's The Way of the World is an absolute classic, as are Shining Star, September, Sing a Song, and so many others.

RIP Maurice.

Sad news indeed,
Maurice White also played drums on this classic.

Very sad, and it's going to be a tough next five years for music fans.

This is a true Earth, Wind & Fire gem, "Fantasy."

The song is quite sublime.

Did not someone else from Earth, Wind and Fire pass away in the last two years? Saddened and my condolences.

Are there any original main members left in the band? They were on a TV show about a year ago, and I'm pretty sure it was lip syncing to the original recording. I couldn't tell if the one singing the high part was an older Philip Bailey or not, and Maurice certainly wasn't there. RIP to their main creator.

Maurice's brother Verdine is still very much in the band as is Philip Bailey and Ralph Johnson. Maurice last toured with the band in '94 or '95.

This year thus far is showing to be a year where our recording stars are passing at a faster rate than ever and could be the year that starts a avalanche. Our parents and grandparents generation had there celluloid hero's and we our record LP hero's. My favorite EWF track was their ballad After The Love Is Gone with its layers of beautiful harmonies on par with the same type of layered rich textured vocals of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. And God bless them there's still a handful of founding fathers left from the fifties too like our hero's hero's.

RIP Maurice. I saw EWF twice when they were at the top of their game (I was in high school). Not only were they amazing musicians but they put on a stellar show. Sadly that kind of R & B band isn't in vogue anymore. Lot of great music came out of that era.

Very sad news. What a great innovator Maurice was. His influences spanned soul, r'n'b, jazz, funk and rock.

Here's one of Earth Wind & Fire's best - containing possibly the highest note ever sung on record.

My niece told me once she would play this song really loud in her room and dance around..
It's joyful.
