On a worldwide, household name basis, Jack The Ripper is a far bigger part of England's history. That's why he's buried at Westminster Abbey.

it's topics like these that make me wonder about colonial's mental state. you think the stones are a "BIG" part of England's history? you do realize that England's history goes back centuries and centuries, right? if you want to include an artistic contribution to the history of England, i would say The Beatles are a part of that history. but The Stones? not as much. certainly not "BIG".

Recorded music is relatively recent so it's hard to say where they'll stand historically.

Although one amusing thing I learned about the Beatles: United Artists wanted the movie A HARD DAY'S NIGHT to be released in June because they feared the entire Beatles fad would be over and done with by the end of that summer.

So it's hard to predict these things.

And Cliff Richard. Far more successful in the UK & over a greater time-span than any other act: he was having number 1's 4 years before the RS were even formed, had his last number 1 in 1999 & his last top 3 hit as recent as 2007. The Rolling Stones & Paul McCartney haven't come even close to having his success over the past couple of decades.

Which I went to last week before travelling 15 miles further onto Salisbury Cathedral which houses the best condition copy left. The curator in the Chapter House where it's kept was mortally offended when my friend suggested it looked like a photocopy............"I'll have you know this is nearly 800 years old".......We had to appease her with...."Ahhh, only joking, it's lovely". grinning smiley...Seriously, that is one impressive piece of litrature, besides the content the caligraphy is breathtaking.
