"Won't you tell your Dad, get off my back
Tell him what we said 'bout Paint It Black"

Re: Songs which mention the Stones

Serge Gainsbourg wrote several songs mentioning the Stones:

* "Ex-fan des sixties" (sung by his wife Jane Birkin) mentions Brian Jones
* "Variations sur Marilu" mentions the Rolling Stones
* "Elastique" (sung by his daughter Charlotte) mentions Mick Jagger

Dear David Allan Coe has a song called "Rock and roll fever" in which he says:

You said the Allman Brother's band,
Wasn't like the Rolling Stones.
Well, you can give your ass to Mick Jagger,
An' leave my ass alone.

what about that John Hiatt song that mentions Charlie?

dont know the title offhand...?

It's his song titled "Slow Turning".

Best part is that just after he sings the line about Charlie, the drummer plays a Charlie-style break.

thumbs up peace

Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water

We all came out to Montreux
On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
We didn't have much time

It is referring to the Stones Mobile, correct?

Don McLean - American Pie

He makes a lot of allusions throughout the song - some are more obvious than others. The "moss grows fat on a rolling stone" line could be about the magazine - but later he sings "Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack Flash on a candle stick" - obviously a reference to "Jumpin' Jack Flash." The "Fire is the Devil's only friend" line is probably an allusion to "Sympathy for the Devil." The whole climax at the end seems to be about Altamont and the ultimate loss of innocence.

'If You Don't Like Hank Williams' (Kris Kristofferson)

I said, I dig Roger Miller, Merle Haggard, George Jones,
Shotgun Willie Nelson and them rockin' Rollin' Stones,
And Jerry Lee's still gotta be the coolest in the class,
And if you don't like Hank Williams, honey, you can kiss my ass.

Holding On To You, from her latest album.

I've seen the south of France
I've seen the sunset dance
Over Sunset Avenue
I've seen the Rolling Stones
Got real high on rock and roll
Seen a lot of dreams come true
But ain't no moment like when I'm holding on to you
Ain't no moment like when I'm holding on to you

This is a song called "Old Guitars" which I wrote when I heard the Stones were coming back for the 2012 shows. The lyrics are made up of as many stones album and song titles as I could shoehorn into it..
The "Old Guitars" of the title are Keith and Ron.
Hope ya like it...

Yo La Tengo - Big Day Coming

Let's wake up the neighbors, let's turn up our amps
And we know we're used to without a plan
We can play a Stones song, Sitting on a Fence
And it'll sound pretty good, til I forget how it ends

You silly old man
You silly old man
You're making a fool of yourself
So get off the stage
You silly old man
In your misguided trousers
With your mascara and your Fender guitar
And you think your can arouse us

But the song that you just sang
It sounds exactly like the last one
And the next one I bet you it will sound
Like this one

Downstage and offstage
Don't you feel all run in?
And do you wonder when they will take it away
And this is your final fling

But then applause ran high
But for the patience of the ones behind you
As a verse drags on like a month drags on
It's very short but it seems very long

And the song that you just sang
It sounds exactly like the last one
And the next one I bet you it will sound
Like this one

So get off the stage
Get off the stage
And when we get down off of the stage
Please stay off the stage old age

Get off the stage
Get off the stage
And when we've had our money back
Then I'd like your back in plaster

Oh I know that you say
How age has no meaning
Oh but here is your audience now
And they're screaming

Get off the stage
Get off the stage
Cause I've given you enough of my time
And the money that wasn't even mine
(have you seen yourself recently)

Oh get off the stage
Oh get off the stage

For whom the bell tolls

Morrissey said "There's a song on this album that has the Rolling Stones in mind because I've been so disgusted by their most recent comeback that I no longer find it sad or pitiful, I just feel immense anger that they don't just get out of the way. You open papers in this country, and every day there's the obligatory picture of, y'know, Mick-with-bags-at-the-airport, or Keith saying he's completely normal now. They just won't move away! The song is called 'Get Off The Stage'."

Point taken - but: the thread is about actual mentions of the Stones as a band and/or individuals.

So the part-time referee in me is tempted to blow his wistle over obstruction of play, here.

Oh well, do go on. winking smiley
