Yay. Another link to another one of YOUR articles about another has been. And I don't care how great his voice may be, his music is crap. Foreigner were great in the early 80's when I was in jr. high. But it's not the early 80's, and I'm not in jr. high anymore, so I could give a crap about any of them now. Or Gene Simmons. Or the guy from Simple Minds. Or Mrs. Who Gives A Shit.

The list is almost endless at this point. Maybe BV should just go ahead and give this section over to you, since almost every other thread is a promotion for one of your articles.

"Off topic posts
IORR is a board dedicated to The Rolling Stones and related topics. Still, other interesting topics may be accepted at times, as long as they are not offending, and as long as there are not too many of them at any time. Make sure you mark your Off Topic post with "OT:" in the subject field. In order to keep the OFF TOPIC number low - after all this is a ROLLING STONES board, not Facebook or Twitter, the IORR Editor will simply remove a lot of the Off Topic posts when they show up. Please do not post off topic, unless it is very important to a lot of us, or very interesting in general. Please no more "see me playing in my band" or other types of me-centric posts. Simply too many off topics. Thanks for your understanding.
"

Or in your case, "see my newest article". I may be the only one, but I think you're pushing it with the constant hawking of your stuff. I doubt anything will ever be done about it because your posts aren't offensive, and cater to certain member types. Fair Enough. Every once in a while is ok, but it seems as though every article you write now is given a thread here. You've turned this site into your own personal link generator, and going by the above, I don't think it's right.

I'm not bothered by your posts. I enjoy reading interviews that a fellow IORR member does with music artists from present OR past. Whether I like the artist or not.

I enjoy his posts, especially when there's not much Stones activity going on.

No one is forcing anyone here to read a particular post!

I too enjoy your articles. Keep posting. I wish I could interview some veteran Rockers. When will you get to sit down with someone really cool like Dwight Yoakam or Lou Reed ?

wow- how'd I miss this?

first up - thanks for the kind words to those who came to my defense - i love you guys! smiling smiley

second - busted is thoroughly entitled to his opinion and I applaud him for expressing it so clearly - i may not agree with it - but I like the spirit behind it

third - to busted directly - i'm sorry if my posts seem excessive - genuinely i am. I do not spend any other time at any other board on the internet - this is pretty much it. i'm typically not a big fan of things like this, but this is the rolling stones - the most important non family, non religious force in my life- i find the people here, for the most part, to be erudite, interesting, kindred, generous, compassionate, witty, open-minded and many other wonderful things.

If the Stones were active I'd rarely post anything non-Stones related - you can check back - I never did - but people here seem to know so much about music, ALL kinds of music - that I guess i just figured it might be interesting to share some of these things I do. Some marvelous discussions have resulted from time to time, too - all in the cradle of silence since the last tour.

Also, I offer more Stones threads than anything else I do here - you can check that too - some of which get tens of thousands of hits and hundreds of comments - so it's not like I'm not interested in keeping the fire stoked. (I also comment frequently in non-me threads.)

As well, by saying I "hawk" my stuff you imply that I'm selling something - not true at all - I get nothing from "viewings" at web sites - I simply get paid to write what I write and that's it- do you know that to "hawk" means to sell?

All that said, I will defer to BV on any/all of these issues. If he has a problem, then I have a problem - this is his house, not mine (or yours).

But I'd really like it known that most honestly, I post those things here because the fan in me simply likes to share, with a marvelously knowledgeable base of people from all over the world , some insights from musicians - some stories -no more or less.

Again, I respect your opinion and I'm sorry these posts have caused such discomfort - and I extend that same sentiment to anyone else who feels that way but has yet to express it.

ps- as to "Every article I write" getting a thread here" - you should know - I write dozens - make that hundreds of pieces - that will never be seen here. I just post the musical stuff to stem that tide til all hell breaks loose - hopefully next year.

HB,
Keep up the great work and keep letting us know what you are up to.

I read threads if I think they sound interesting or entertaining or educational or bizarre. So far, no one has forced me to read all of them.

yes they did, at JFK in '78, and they kicked ass that day. Stones were sub-par, but that was the first time I ever saw them, so it was a thrill.

keep up the good work, hbwriter

While I agree there can be a lot of irrelevant OT posts here, I think the ones which are music related are of interest, and I'm also one that is supportive of your posting these interviews.

Whether or not we personally 'like' who you are interviewing shouldn't have any bearing either.

The relative anonymity of a message board can sometimes allow for the abuse of the 'rant feature'. A lot of us have been guilty of this.

While I'm not a proponent of censorship per se, I think a healthy dose of self-censorship can only result in more positive, if not more coherent, posts.

I too enjoy HB's posts. And Lou G. has an amazing, heart-rending story -- I wasn't even that much of a Foreigner fan back in the day but you can't help but be moved by what Mr. Gramm has gone through.

Perfect advice, short and sweet and to the point! It's not like the guy is posting bomb making instructions, we're all here because of music.

This reminds me of friends of mine who "reply all" angrily to emails they disagree with, I always ask if they do the same to emails about Viagra or the Nigerian who promises a million $$ if they only supply their bank #.

I'd like BUsted Trousers or whatever his name is to come back on and tell us what exactly is the issue with HBwriter's threads...I for one, find 99% of them interesting, they are always about music and usually from the same generation as the stones, i.e. 60's, 70's and 80's. He always clearly states if it is off topic - thereby giving the reader the option of reading it or not and he, as he states posts some great stones related stuff too. I can't see why they could offend you Busted, we have some incredibly mundane threads on here which are far more offending and dull than anything HB puts up here. He's a writer, who has access to interviewing some of the great names in Rock, why would you not want to read them? He isn't making money out of posting on here and he uses a pseudonym rather than his real name. Please tell us why it offends you so much?

Wow- one could substitute "Rolling Stones" for "Foreigner" here and any Stones band member for others you mention and your screed would still be accurate. Suffice to say I'm glad I don't think like you do.
