Had It With You
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards / Ron Wood)

RPM Studios, New York City, New York, US, September 10 - October 15, 1985 and
Right Track Studios, New York City, New York, US,
November 15 - December 5, 1985

Mick Jagger - vocals, harmonica
Keith Richards - electric guitar
Charlie Watts - drums
Ron Wood - electric guitar, saxophone

And I love you, dirty f u c k e r, sister and a brother
Moaning in the moonlight, singing for your supper
'Cos I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you
And I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you

You always try to taunt me, always seem to haunt me
Serving out injunctions, shouting out instructions
But I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you
And I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it, we’re through
I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you

And I love you with a passion, in and out of fashion
Always got behind you when others try to blind you
But I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you
And I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you
I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you

It is such a sad thing to watch a love go dry
I've had it up to here, babe, I've got to say goodbye
'Cos I had it, had it, had it, had it with you
And I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you

Yeah, you loved me in the lean years, loved you in the fat ones
You're a mean mistreater, you're a dirty, dirty rat scum
Yeah, I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you
And I had it, I had it, I had it, I had it with you
Oh, I had it, had it, had it, had it with you
Had it with you, had it with you
Had it with you, had it with you
Had it with you, had it with you
Had it with you, had it with you

Produced by The Glimmer Twins & Steve Lilywhite

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Harlem Shuffle / Had It With You” 7” single
(CBS A 6864) UK, February 26, 1986

dirty dirty rat scum - i love it when the Glimmer Twins sing love songs to each other :E
and it sounds like a 100% full-fledged collaborative effort too

>> You always try to tough me, always try to haunt me <<

that shoud read "You always try to taunt me, always seem to haunt me"

and

>> It is such a sad thing to watch a love all dry <<

is really "It is such a sad thing to watch a love go dry"

Love it! One of the tightest, meanest rhythm guitars ever recorded thumbs up

This is the fourth song in row in Track Talk: that I don't like or doesn't do it for me

No bass? I know next to nothing about music, but does Ronnie's sax sorta take its place?

As for the song, the worst song on an album I love. Only one I skip on Dirty Work.

I remember interviews at the time of its release saying that they `ve tried it with a bass but decided to record without. Right decision. This is one of the strongest tracks on that record. It is very hard or difficult to record a song like this, so raw and unpolished. A bass would sweeten the track, would be a common blues. But this one is very special and to me a prime example of the Stones rawness and simplicity on record. Very few musicians can record like this one. Topthumbs up

lame riff, ugly sound, horrible vocals - just like the rest of Dirty Work (with the exception of Sleep Tonight)

I love the middle slow part, great bluesy Mick performance.

Ugly sound? That Mesa Boogie is downright mean and dirty. Just like it is on She's So Cold, Summer Romance, Let Me Go and others. My favorite rhythm guitar sound.

There is a nice outtake of the song. As a matter of fact, one of the best outtakes
of any song by the band. Really full of energy. Would have been nice on the album.
It's on the Crushed Pearls album.

Try to find it if you haven't heard it. It's definitely worth it!

With "ugly sound" I'm talking about the entire production, not just the guitar sound. The Dirty Work album sounds like some '80s crap, for example "Back to Zero" sounds like an excerpt from the Macgyver series.

Anyway, for me the Emotional Rescue guitar sound is not as mean and dirty as Carol, I Just Wanna Make Love To You, She Said Yeah etc, or Brown Sugar/Bitch/Can't You Hear Me Knocking for that matter.

<The Dirty Work album sounds like some '80s crap, for example "Back to Zero" sounds like an excerpt from the Macgyver series.>

Yeah, a couple of songs do, and two or three others have awful drum sound. But in all fairness, Had It With You is one of the songs with good sound on the album (Harlem Shuffle and the title track being other examples, imo).

Regarding the guitar sound, yes, I think Keith's Mesa sound of the Pathe Marconi era is as dirty and punchy as the songs you mention. It's clean, but raw and punchy at the same time. The crunch seem to kick in with how hard he hit the strings. A dream for a guitar player thumbs up

A very early version - not really far enough developed to be an actual outtake:

I think it is about the only song in DIRTY WORK that has the 'punky' Pathe Marconi feeling in it. But of course, it is so goddamn sketchy and raw to take anyway 'seriously'. A (nice) joke it is. 'By the numbers' Stones song and probably done in half an hour. It is basically a single B-side material but seemingly due to the lack of competent material it was included in the record. But the major stuff in record being as bad it was, this particulal song funnily stands out! As would "Fancy Man Blues" if it would have made STEEL WHEELS.

Love it -- one of three decent songs on this awful album (One Hit, Had It With You, Sleep Tonight).

Love this song, but its probably about a woman...lol
I think Keef is more likely to write a song about Mick than the other way around. Mick has other things to be obsessed with.

As with Knock Yer Teeth Out I actuall think this is a 100% Ron Wood song. And the only worthwhile track on Dirty Work I might add.

have you ever listened to to the track called "Had It With You"? It sounds nothing like "Back to Zero" despite being on the same album. Or Macgyver, despite being in the same decade.
