Is Perth 73' the best there is? I rection.

I reckon Perth 73' might be the best live stones available. What do you think? What I think is Brussels, perhaps also known as the 72, 73 unreleased live album lacks a little spark. In Perth the boys are clearly having a good time in every way.
What do you think?

I think Paris 1967 is best.

I think Australia 73 is the best. However IMO Sydney 73 (26th) is the best.

When I'm really anxious to hear some classic Stones I always reach for Happy Birthday Nicky.

Brussels 73 is very similar in quality, but to my ears Keith is a little more "en fuego" on the Aussie tour. He and Taylor are really in-sync (without 'weaving').

Perth '73 has always been my favourite...especially while driving. Bluesy, sloppy, rocking...have loved it for years. Is it true that the original bootleg was 'leaked' by Bill Wyman's son in the 90's?

Cheers

I´ve always thought Perth was a sluggish, uninspired and lackluster performance. Sloppy, but not in a "good" way. And Gimme Shelter from this show is arguably the biggest trainwreck of the entire Taylor era.

Sydney 02/26 on the other hand is a fantastic show. Thight, aggressive and inspired playing full of energy from start to finish.

AUstralia 73 is my favorite Stones live recordings, hands down.
People wax poetic about Brussells, or Passaic 78, Hampton 81 etc...
but nothing captures the raw energy of the Stones at their peak more than Australia 73.
I don't know what it was, but those shows just sounded so tight and urgent and fun.
The recordings are also distinctive from any other live recordings.....there is something low-fi and up-front. It literally sounds like you're standing right in front of the stage with a tape recorder in your hand. Its not slick like Brussels....and it almost sounds like mono....
But it just crackles musically and Jagger's voice is strong and he's actually singing.
Australia 73 should be released on CD/

Ah, Perth '73. aka Happy Birthday Nicky!

Quite an interesting show. IMO not at all their best but certainly has energy and is raw and sloppy..not too sloppy, just enough.

For those that "don't know what it was" or "something about that show.." It was the acid my friends.

Yes, it has been told that this boot captures the Stones playing while on LSD in the Aussie Summer sun. Legend has it that Keef, Bobby, and the 2 Micks all dropped a tab (or two?) before the gig. This would explain the bubbling raw energy of the playing as well as Jagger's breathless and excitable performance. "Oh...good lord"

Indeed. I've got the "I Think It's Gonna Rain Again" 2LP last year, and even though I am trying my best to not wear out vinyl records, I have played "I think it's gonna rain" to death.
