That´s a studio album, but Dylan & the Dead is a very dead live record.

Having Fun with Elvis on Stage (1974) - a live album without a single note of music.

Funny, I am a fan of several live albums that always get knocked:
1) I have always enjoyed Slow Train on Dylan and The Dead. I saw this tour in Eugene
2) I always like Joined Together by The Who. I saw this tour in Tacoma. I get why people knock it, there were 30 people on stage and Pete was playing acoustic behind a screen but I still enjoyed the music.
3) I LOVE Still Life. It's so raw, no Vegas-style support, Keith sings backup. Twenty Flight Rock!!! What's not to like? Didn't get to see the tour but saw the movie n the Theater when it came out.

Aerosmith's ''Classics Live Vol. 2, yes is a bad album, but Three Mile Smile / Reefer Head Woman from this album is fantastic. I think that Jimmy Crespo was good for this band. From the other hand I think that also Live Bootleg! (1978) is not good as other live album of the time (for example Peter Frampton's one or UFO's one). I also don't like Rockin' the Joint (2005).
Maybe their best live album is ''You gotta move'' published in 2004.

but...
1. Thin Lizzy - Life
2. Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same (vinyl version, because the remastered one is better having other tracks)
3. Van Halen - Live, Right Here, Right Now
4. Eric Clapton - Rainbow Concert
5. Deep Purple - Last Concert In Japan
6. Pink Floyd's Delicate Sound of Thunder.
7.The Who - Who's Last/ Join Together
8. RS - Flashpoint (is not good as other live albums by them)

Some good examples there. But you're mixing up Classics Live Vol 2 with Vol 1. Volume 2 is the red one, recorded on Aerosmith's reunion tour of 1984. Playing is okay, they're having a good party, but the sound is terrible, especially the drums. Volume 1 (the blue one) comes in large part from the Jimmy Crespo/Rick Dufay years, which makes it historically interesting, and it's a little better than vol 2. Live Bootleg is one of my alltime favourite live albums. Sound is not terrific but it's classic Aerosmith at its sleaziest, has a great tracklist and some cool stuff from '73 as well. (If you're interested in Aerosmith in its most stoned & drunk state, check out the bootleg Ventura '83: [www.youtube.com])

The Who-Who's Last
For a band with such a great reputation as a live band, this one sucks. Some uninspired performances filled with songs that appeared live elsewhere in better form. Further, no new songs are on the album, despite the Who playing 4 of them from It's Hard. All in all, not that good.

In Aerosmith's case, I would say the awful sounding "Bootleg" would be the one.
Stoneswise, the edit on "Rocks Off" makes me dislike "Live Licks" - althoug there are some good moments on there.
"Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl" is a great document of the times - but soundwise - all the screaming, poor amps, etc. - it's not so hot.
