Dave has tweeted that he's off to NYC for the SuperHeavy launch party.
We know Mick and Joss are already there. Here's hoping that the party is
a thing of wonder.

track talk: superheavy

(we wrote a long bit about how much we are floored
by this track, but have just deleted it. damian has a line
from his recent album that sums it up better:
"(this music) make you feel like you're living in a dream." )

(different simultaneous hopped-up beats, yow!)

(journey to the center of your mind guitars)

(damian breathtaking chorus -- sorry, this approximation
of the words will just have to do until we get the real ones.)

on the rise and fall like the storm
we stand on Jah man, we set the bar

(all) because we're heavy. superheavy.

yo! surprise the cosmic and keeping armed
outside the enemies of thee. keep so far!

(all) because we're heavy. superheavy.

yo! unto the war we don't know what line of star
give us a loan from your old style of car

(all) because we're heavy. superheavy.

yo! from argentina to zanzibar
not go no place with me strum on guitar

(mick)

you better watch your step
keep your distance
you gotta understand
a'fore it gets too dangerous
its two steps back
and the dog won't bite
and all hell will stop
don't matter if its day or night

(joss)

we gonna rock your self
and take no prisoners
you got no choice
and its none of your business
when the walls come down
we know we got love
its a gift to us
from the heavens above

(allah racka sings deep into inner space, and back again,
seamlessly from one half of your brain to the other, from
one beat to another)

(joss)

we're superheavy in love
we're superheavy trusting
superheavy, in love, yes we are!

(damian)

yeah. its about real heavy. its about mercy.
large amount. you understand?
excess heaviness. heaviest.
heavyweight title holder.
heavyweight contenders, you understand?
ha! huge! yeah!

pep up! pep up! pep up!

(all) heavy! superheavy!

Oh my! I'm digitally shocked into compliance. That phrase is worth having to read the whole gambit of SH fan comments. lmfao. A regular Rick James with a keyboard, you are. Ok let the SH stuff play, I'm not listening. peace.

Did you enjoy that one? I must admit I actually laffed as that flew off my key strokes.

All in good fun!

Yes that one is good fodder for the Urban Dictionary online database. It is the first time I've been handled with it anyway. peace.

Great tune, listened through the deluxe version of this album again today...I orignally gave it an 8 or 9, but I'm really enjoying this variety and energy.

The vocals are fantastic, they really play off each other.

Even the worst cut, "I Can't Stand It" is growing on me. The Joss intro is inspired and I like the chorus. The weak point for me is Mick's pedestrian growl during the verses. Just boring.

Congrats SuperHeavy on the 2,000,000th youtube view of "Miracle Worker"!

Even before the album is released! Not bad.

In terms of Rolling Stones official music videos, only Angie at 13 million
views and the two versions of Anybody Seen with a (thanks to Angie Jolie)
combined 6 million still seem out of reach. Stones have about a half dozen
official vids between 2 and 3.5 million.

not to be a rain cloud here but they probably have a program the just keeps playing the Miracle Worker video over and over to get this kind of numbers. I'd like to know how many different IP's have actually watched the video. Remember these are computers and the numbers game is not always as it appears. When people have to plunk down hard earned cash, then we will see just how popular this world music band is. As far as keith liking SH, I doubt it. Just because he likes D Marley , that is taken out of context I'm afraid.

And I doubt MJ has preordained his committment to SH. He is the type that will only committ if he see's that people are liking it more that the stones. The record buying public is a very young one and MJ has very little appeal there. His contribution is more like his ability to get press on whatever he does. The press people being the old farts who are Stones fans. And if I were D. Marley or J Stone I would be worried about the very real possibility that Mick Jagger is using SH to piggyback another solo deal for himself. I mean that was about as sleazy as it gets and I doubt he has changed a bit. MJ is all for MJ and the SH stuff is getting in the way of the Rolling Stones. No doubt about that. peace.

great question and the answer is NO they don't count unique views. This could be easily done if paid for. Anyone can hire a monkey (computer program) to get as many views as they want. It is, thus , not necessarily a good indicator of popularity much and has long been compromised by the marketing temas who do nothing but play this game with the mostly ignorant You Tube viewers. SH's record company and a slew of young energetic, computer saavy interns who do nothing but hype SH all day long on the various blogs, boards and music appreciation sites. It being so anonymous just makes the whole deceit easier to pull off. Especially since all the $ in in show revenue and merchandise, they can give away the music with a hyped up story and get away with it. Welcome to the cess pool that is the internet. peace.

Mick Jagger's new supergroup SuperHeavy scores with debut
By Kevin O'Hare, The Republican

SuperHeavy is one of the unlikeliest supergroups you’ll ever find.
The heaviest of the heavies is Mick Jagger, on sabbatical from the Rolling Stones. Here, Jagger has teamed with Dave Stewart, formerly of Eurythmics; neo-soul sensation Joss Stone; reggae star Damian Marley; and “Slumdog Millionaire” soundtrack composer A.R. Rahman.
And while Jagger’s voice is the one that most frequently rises to the top, it is Marley who may have driven the project the most musically as the sound has a Jamaican feel to it more often than not Jagger has loved that style for ages, perhaps most memorably on his collaboration with Peter Tosh on a cover of the Temptations’ “Don’t Look Back” in 1978.
These “supergroup” things have a way of almost always disappointing but there’s a lot to like about SuperHeavy, especially the band’s ability to consistently surprise.
There are also some positively unforgettable songs, starting with “Beautiful People,” which prominently features Jagger and Stone; the ballad “I Don’t Mind,” which is based in keyboards and strings, with a powerhouse Jagger lead vocal, supported by Marley and Stone; and the extremely catchy first single “Miracle Worker,” which carries an Island feel from start to finish.
One of the biggest treats is hearing Jagger sing in Urdu in Rahman’s composition “Satyameva Jayathe,” which translated to “the truth alone triumphs.” The upside is hearing the vocal. The downside is that like a couple of songs here it is a bit too overblown, eventually sounding like something that would serve as a finale for the Olympic Games. “World Keeps Turning” takes on the same personality but they are primarily the weak links on an otherwise enjoyable set.
After all, it’s all but impossible not to love the light reggae rhythms and the Marley and Stone vocals in “Rock Me Gently,” or Jagger turning in one of his best vocals in memory on “Never Gonna Change” which is vaguely reminiscent of “Let it Bleed” era Rolling Stones.
Recorded in several different countries – adding to the international feel, “SuperHeavy” is bolstered by the presence of Marley’s rhythm section and Stewart’s past collaborator/violinist Ann Marie Calhoun.

Joss in the Sunday Telegraph, excerpted:

It was no easy task to co-ordinate their schedules to be in the same studio at
the same time. And when they did , it was a packed studio.

"Everyone else came with their people, not me though," Stone tells Insider.
"I literally just came in with my handbag. I just turned up with my handbag and
a pencil."

At 24, Stone has forged a standout career for herself and is well respected by
her peers. She's sold more than 11 million albums since starting out as a
teenager a decade ago, enjoying huge international success with hits Tell Me
'Bout It and You Had Me.

She has also appeared in a Hollywood film, Eragon, as Angela and as Anne of
Cleeves in the hugely popular historical drama The Tudors.

Success aside, fame is not something Stone has chased. In fact, she's avoided
it. "When I began my life in this I hoped to be credible, not to be just big for
being big," she said by phone from New York. "I love music and I never want to
disrespect it and do it for fame's sake."

Stone continued: "Fame is not all it's cracked up to be. It's a crock of s***.
It's a pain in the arse - but it is wonderful to walk out on stage."

The SuperHeavy project came out of left field and Stone admits she was surprised
to be asked to contribute. "Why me?" she asked. "Of all the people in the
world, why me?"

"I didn't feel too intimidated," said Stone, who counts Prince William as one of
her close friends. "We all do something that is entirely different. The idea of
the project is that we all do our own thing and be ourselves as much as we can
be and then mash them together to make this new sound.
I just had to do me
and try and be the best me I could be, so I did that."

The common thread for this band is music. It's music that brought them all
together and that bond that makes SuperHeavy work."My favourite part of this was
when we were making the music, which is pretty much my favourite part of any
project.

Stone would have been forgiven for being intimidated by the legendary Jagger,
but she wasn't. "He's just so sweet. Mick's not a scary guy. He's a really
loving and giving character when you are writing with him. He's a very
intelligent chap, really interesting to be around. He's got a lot to give, which
I find really lovely."

The next step, hopefully, will be touring. "I don't know how likely it is but I
think it is possible," Stone said.
"I think people should get online and
start making a petition."

Excerpted from Mick interview today Times of India:

How did you write together? Did the musical contributions vary according to
each song or did everyone have a pre-planned key role in the process?

The idea of everybody having a pre-planned key role was hilariously funny. I
guess when we started off we didn't know what we were going to do to be honest,
and so everyone was ready to do anything that was asked from them. So we just
started writing; one person would come up with a beat, one person would come up
with a guitar melody or vocal idea and we just took it from there.

What were the hardest parts of working on this project? Did you try anything
and abandon it because it wasn't working?

I don't think that was the hard part. It was all very fun, quick and easy. It's
always hard to re-visit things and finish them. The fun part is the initial
creation when your really up in the studio. When you have to go back and fill in
verses and things, they are sometimes a bit tricky to figure out.

You have a special connection with India, especially Rajasthan and Goa, can
you talk about this...

I love India - it offers such diverse and wide range of music.

When did you first hear about AR Rahman, and why did you decide to work with
him?

I actually cooked up the idea for SuperHeavy with Dave Stewart and he has known
AR for quite some time. We knew we wanted to bring in another voice like AR
Rahman. He's a very sweet person and also super musical, that would add a
completely different aspect to the record.

How has the collaboration worked out so far, given the songs have got mixed
reviews?

Each song is unique and has its own elements. We wanted to do an album that
didn't sound like anything we'd heard before. We have definitely lived up to it
and the collaboration has worked.

Do you follow Indian music? Any sounds or instruments you would like to use?
I am familiar with Indian music and I have seen AR play various instruments,
including Indian ones, so maybe sometime I would like to try out an Indian
instrument.

when we first learned of this Jai Ho vid and saw "pussycat dolls" as the co-artists,
we laughed derisively. but it is killer, as its 38 million views would suggest.
the lead singer, natalie whatever, and the english producers did an astonishing
job of translating a peppy ethnic ditty from slumdog millionaire into one
of the greatest pop/dance numbers ever (with lotza musical merit besides).
we hope superheavy does a version of this in their shows. we wanna see
mick and damian do the jai ho dance lol. if you havent already, enjoy:
