The Monte's from the DR are available in the US. Sadly they are not the same.

Once again, I’m puffing away on a Montecristo Petit Edmundo from Oct of ‘06 ….. Eat your hearts out……. There’s NOTHING like an aged cigar and especially a Monte that has 5 years of age under it’s belt… The Petit Edmundo tends to have a bit more strength than a lot of the other Montes but when smoked slowly it can be very creamy and sweet.. I keep saying this but, smoke a cigar slowly and try to keep it’s ash as long as you can for best results… I’m thumbing through a Rolling Stones book and since I just read Keith’s ( no last name needed…..really ) autobiography, I have the Stones on my mind a lot lately…. I was lucky enough to spend some time on the X-Pensive Winos’ first tour and was lucky enough to see Keith and his great band play night after night…. I believe I saw 6 of their shows in all from Boston to L.A….. Wow, what an eye opener !!! The great way he attacks a song with such great taste reminds me of the cigar I’m smoking right now…. He isn’t one to over-play but waits patiently and listens to what each other member of his band is doing before contributing just the perfect guitar part to make up a wonderful symphony of syncopation and harmony.. Waddy Wachtel was the second guitar player in the “Winos” and it was a perfect marriage of 2 guitars… I gotta tell you that the first third of this Petit Edmundo is very beautiful and balanced….. Anyway, getting back to Keith’s taste…. And then one night I saw Keith’s wife, Patti Hansen backstage…… Yes, just like this great cigar, Keith has great taste!

Importation of illegal substances, regardless of right versus wrong is illegal. It's a felony, although not enforced unless it's Cocaine or some other Schedule 1 or 2 such as an opiate. The Custom Border Patrol checks ALL incoming mail through sophisticated screening.

Many shipments of Cuban cigars have been confiscated. However, my friend at work occasionally visits Peru, where Cuban cigars are legal. He will purchase 20 or 40 and go through airport security or simply place in luggage. He has had no confrontations.

In other words, Going through airports with the contraband may be the best bet, because the U.S. Gov't is really focused on supporting the Pharmaceutical companies in stopping the purchase of medicines from foreign countries.

Thanks!

Yeah the USA is wrong on many levels. However, I make money and that comes first so I must live here. Problem: For example, I owe ten dollars versus my 2010 tax filing. I was only 10 short!! They sent me a bill!! When one pays thousands and thousands of dollars, the school of thought is that $10 should be dismissed. Unfortunately, If i don't pay the ten dollars will increase via interest.

For crying outloud just put the 10 on a tab!

Two friends returning from Canada through New York State got the bright idea to leave cigars on the car dashboard in plain sight but without the paper rings on them. They thought that without the paper rings on them then the border agents could not prove that they were Cuban cigars and they would therefore be allowed to keep them. Yet it was a tale of rather like cheating on your taxes: anything you can think of has probably been thought of before and busted.

Of course the border agents had seen this annoying cigar trick before and pulled their car out of line and tore it apart and detained them for hours -- and kept the cigars. . .. Than you very much!

I told them that next time they should just take the cigars and tape them under their noses and maintain through questioning that they are mustaches. And bring Pickle Mustache Man with them!

Interesting account of unfairness. The U.S. Gov't subsidizes tobacco farmers here. However, to prove a political point, they are anti Castro and any other cigar produced in the wold is legal, with so-called permission. The gov't is really a myriad of confusion.

Food for thought. You can't find Cuban cigars in the divided states of america...BUT, you can find weed, coke and heroin everywhere.

That should tell you all you need to know about a fake drug war.

I agree. However, Coke and Heroin may be questionable as a legal substance.

For example: Keith was obviously hooked on smack during the 75 Tour..at last in Greensboro.

Also, coke made Brittany Spears show her vagina in public. I remember because it was flappy.

And every single US president since then. The ban could have been reversed by any of them.

Well, they'll get your ten bucks and GE and Exxon pay zero on billions in profits due to lobbying and tax breaks. GE's net profit last year was $14 Billion. They paid zero in taxes. The rest of us have it conveniently deducted from our paychecks.

I meant JFK got his stash of cigars and once he got his, he closed the door for everyone else. The following Presidents just kept the door closed.

You're right. Can you blame him for getting a stash for himself? I was in Victoria, BC Canada last weekend at a tobacco shop. They will take the labels off and ship the cigars to the US Fedex. I've had it done.

Cuban cigars are NOT what they used to be. The manufacturing process has been sped up considerably so as to get more cigars to market so as to help pay for Fidel's failed worker's utopia. The started going to hell about the time the USSR collapsed and quit sending Cuba stipends.

I've brought them home from the Caribbean before, take the labels off and put them in a different set of luggage.

I also have a funny story of a guy I used to work with who was working in South America, had some time to kill in an airport, saw some cuban cigars for sale so figured he'd bring some home. The were caught by US customs, the guy says "what are these?" he says "those are cuban cigars, you can't buy those here!". of which he informs my friend it's because they're illegal, even to purchase elsewhere and bring them into the country. Thinking he's a wise-ass, they haul him off and go through every bit of his luggage, and in his own words, when they figured out he was just stupid, the guy gave them back and said "enjoy your cigars".

As much as I disagree with Fidel Castro, I respect him immensely for standing up to U.S. governments for almost 50 years and soldiering on despite the embargo. We punish the few million Communists in Cuba, while bending over for the billion Communists in China, the same bloodthirsty ones who massacred their own people in 1989.

That said, I have had a good Cuban cigar before and I could tell how it was better than other cigars I've had. But, it's Havana Club Rum that I'd really like access to.

the embargo is stupid, outdated,,americans need to petition there government to finally end this,,

all it has done is affect the general public of cuba,,

thankfully europeans and canadians have had open relations with them

AP reported on May 21, 2011 that President Obama is following through on a promise to ease travel restrictions to Cuba. If final permission is granted, trips could begin in as little as six weeks.

Cuban officials say privately they expect as many as 500,000 visitors from the United States annually.

The guidelines, published by the U.S. Treasury Department, say so-called people-to-people tours must guarantee a "full-time schedule of educational activities that will result in meaningful interaction" with Cubans. But a previous requirement to file an advance itinerary is gone
