Thanks for posting, these are great. I found the interviews with Taylor quite interesting, as I have read so few over the years. He presented himself very well, very articulate. If he was harboring any doubts or conflicts by the Goats Head Soup period, it certainly doesn't show from his comments.

Yeah he's very polite, kinda like Brian on a good day. His dissatisfaction does come out a bit in a later 1974 interview, but Nick Kent seems to be trying to wind him up a bit about credits, see below.

Sorry it's cut up oddly...

Excellent thread!

<<Just boguht some cdr's from ebay loaded with old clippings, made a great addition to my own collection of old NME's, Rave magazine's etc.>>

Speaking of NME, may I ask; HM, do you have any of the May 1968 issues?
The reason I ask is that Keith Altham did in-the-studio report on the band, and
while I've read part two - which is from the June 01 issue - I've never been
fortunate enough to find the one with part one. So seeing this thread I started hoping

The Mick Taylor article is amazing. Tells you everything you need to know about why Mick Taylor quit.

Dumb move MT. But you know that already.

Hi Sohoe!
I still have the NMEs from May 68, I kept those old ones, but stupidly sold all issues from 1969 to ~1984 twenty years ago!
The paper is already very fragile, I will have to scan carefully!
If His Majesty does not come up with this, I will do it on the weekend.

There must be a recording of that 1968 Pollwinners concert somewhere!

As late as 1968, Brian Jones is still the spokesman for the band along with Mick. I also find it interesting that Brian mentions branching out on his own in the '68 'In-Session' article, a clear indication of where he wanted to go with his career.

There's a brilliant Jagger interview from about 1980 that I'd love to read again, if you've got it. It was printed in the Melody Maker, but I think they bought it in from an American magazine. It's one of the few interviews from that period where he seemed to let his guard down. Do you know the one I'm talking about?

It's here luv':

Thank you Mr. Majesty, these are so interesting, they seem much more candid back then and spontaneous! This is like going back in time to the days of my youth, they also reveal insights to why Taylor quit, maybe similar to why Brian wanted out in the end too, maybe sort of taken for granted. IMHO.

His Majesty, I'm speechless.. this is the best thing happened in this board for quite some time. Actually the discussion has been quite lame for some time and not much happening here. Please do not get bored in posting the articles...smileys with beerthumbs up

It is interesting that there are quite many familiar anecdotes or quotes in the articles that have found their place in 'official' histories/books/stories/recollections of the band. But they still look different in the original context, and many times some important connotations or whatever things are lost in those interpretations/cutting offs.

Kent reports that Taylor has a "distinct disdain for Lou Reed and 'that other New York stuff'" -- who's he talking about here? New York Dolls? What else was going on in NYC in '74 that he would be aware of? Surely not Patti Smith or Television.

Wow - you must have a great archive. Been collecting long?

Since about 2006 or so, not long before I joined here.

Just boguht some cdr's from ebay loaded with old clippings, made a great addition to my own collection of old NME's, Rave magazine's etc. I've spent a good chunk of change on this shit, but I'm all about getting what I have out there, this kind of stuff is too cool to not share.

I think i'm going to make up some zip files of everything and post them for folks to download. Just need to find the time to scan my unscanned stuff, organise everything and upload it all to megaupload or something.

I haven't finished yet to read all what you posted ,of course ,but I do enjoy it a lot.
Thanks for sharing Siver Dagger .I always appreciated very much how you contribute on iorr,as Rockman does and as Honestman did .It takes time to scan ,download & post stuff like that .
