Keith on his favorite Bowie song
Posted by: BowieStone ()

KEITH RICHARDS: Can’t remember. Who is he? Oh, he went to the same art school as me. “Changes”, maybe. That’s about it. Not a large fan, no. It’s all pose. It’s all @#$%& posing. It’s nothing to do with music. He knows it, too. I can’t think of anything else he’s done that would make my hair stand up.

All pose, nothing to do with music.
Incredible how a musician can state this about David Bowie.

Keith just doesn't go for the 'character - role playing -science fiction -glam ' thing..

he's just a ol' bluesman, really..

wonder what thinks of the guitar in 'Rebel Rebel'...

Interestingly, his is the only negative commentary in the story that covers Bowie's 'best' work from otherwise adoring industry insiders.

Wonder what he thought of Mick's eye makeup/stage costumes in the early 70s?

He seems to have very little appreciation of most music that came after The Stones started, he has been dismissive of The Who,Zeppelin,Bowie .. Im not sure why this is? Not one of his better traits!

When was he dismissive of the Who?

He loves AC/DC, btw. Powerage is his favourite album.

I'm sure I have read that he can't stand Dalteys voice , yes your right about AC/DC they would be an exception. I did say most not all

Kind of a funny quote. When you think he is critical of almost everyone and isn't he?, it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. Keith being Keith.

I'm pretty sure Keith was a fan of the Who. He never liked Plant's voice, though, but liked Led Zep, and in particular Page's guitar playing.

I read George Harrison was not all that enamoured with Bowie either. Said something like he felt Bowie was just hiding behind masks and there was no real substance. Maybe that's what Keith is getting at as well.

Don't get me wrong - I'm personally a huge Bowie fan but I can see where old Keith and George are coming from, to some degree.

Well, I have to agree with Keith Richards on this one. I like Bowie's later work better than his early years, stuff like "Ashes to Ashes" or "Absolute Beginners", for the catchy kitsch of it, but it's empty music to me. Like Queen. I'm sure it's musically all very clever and all, but I don't feel a thing, and it all sounds like a gimmick to me.
I never cared much for Lou Reed either, apart from Berlin which I love but which - ironically - was very badly received when it came out.

I guess you can't have all the Beatles on your side.

John Lennon seemed to adore the 'fame'.

Ever watch Keith in the promo clips for Black & Blue?
He's concentrating *really hard* on ignoring the ambisexual extravaganza going on to his right.
Both Glimmer Twins have tried each other's patience in various ways over the years :E

its a lot of overlapping going on there..Bowie and Jagger and a song that may have inspired 'Satisfaction'..

Bowie was a fantastic artist. He picked up different guises along the way, without getting pigeonholed. He could rock as hard as anybody. 'Suffragette City' was a mother live. Keith probably sees him as a competitor and won't give him anything, the way John Lennon spit on the Stones.

Actually it was Nowhere to Run that the Satisfaction riff was based on - another Vandellas song.
But it's been misidentified for decades - it was someone here on iorr who set the record straight.
(Pun intended? You decide! :E )

( yes and a good one too)! thanks, with sssoul..its always seemed a stretch anyway, to me, that Satisfaction had much to do with either of those..

just going along with the settled confusion..smiling smiley
