Jimmy Page, Live he always sounded bad. On the records he sounded great.

I once saw a Best 100 Guitarists poll that put Steve Cropper at number 2 behind Hendrix. Good as he was/is, I do think that overrated Cropper somewhat.

Eric Clapton. His solo works are quite boring. He was better when he was in the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith. I admit that I haven't that much listened to his albums. There might be some hidden gems that main stream radio stations never play.

Buddy Guy - Very fast, not much emotion

Robbie Robertson... he's one of the best writer of songs but I've always felt his guitar playing was more of a hacker than of an artist

Never thought I'd say this, bit I have to admit that Alvin Lee should be on the list. I am a Ten Years After fan but when I was recently listening to "Ten Years After Live at the Fillmore East", it became painfully obvious that he plays virtually the same riff in just about every song. He may be fast but certainly not innovative.

nobody is underrated or overrated. everybody is rated with breaktaking, pinpoint accuracy.

DaveG, this one hurts he has always been one of my favorites. I will have too listen a little more closely now and see if I hear what you hear.

Virgil, he has always been a favorite of mine too. They wrer an awesome live band. But listen to the Fillmore East album and especially compare the middle "jam" portions of Love Like a Man, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, and Going Home, along with I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes from Isle of Wight and you'll see what I mean. Many other examples besides these. I still find their music enjoyable however.

I like everyone listed on here.....everyone is "overrated" to a point. But isn't that a media thing rather than a measure of their talent?
