First thing I thought when I met Ronnie was "Holy crap, his head is huge!" He's got a gigantic melon on top of a scrawny, bird-like body. No wonder why he's drunk all the time - standing up must be a real bitch.
JuanTCB.. ya'.. Sure it just was'nt all Ronnie's hair making it look like that.Because Ronnie has always had a good head of hair

I was thinking STAY CALM, do not act like a weird fan!!! It was actually like an out of body experience, each time. I nearly fainted AFTER but was ok while in front of Mick. I did feel a huge rush of adrenaline, got shakey but once we started to talk, I was fine....like I said, until AFTER.

I had the privilege of meeting George Harrison once. I remembered all the Beatle bios saying he was 5'11". No way. Even in Beatle boots, he wasn't that tall.
He was closer to 5'7". Dylan's about 5'5", and Paul Simon's 5'2".

I did always wonder Why Mick Taylors nickname was little Mick, yet every photo I see of the Stones he is always the tallest. I have run into Mick Jagger a few times when the Ashes are being played in Australia. I am an MCG member, him and Michael Parkinson never fail to turn up at some stage. My first thought is always dont stare at them and dont talk to them, they will have you ejected.

It's pretty hard - and even more so whenyou know you might only get a few seconds to say something. I thought long and hard before meeting Keith at his London book singing but then my mind went blank when I stood in front of him.

In the end I could only think to ask him 'when's the new album coming out'. He cackled in his inimitable way and said, "when they give me time man, when they give me time" and then shook my hand.

Roger Daltrey is somewhere in the 5'4" to 5'6" range.

The smallest rock star I ever met was Gerry Shephard of The Glitter Band. He can't have been more than 5'1". The platform boots he wore in the '70s must have been enormous.

The three times i've been in spitting distance from them, in the
front row centerish, i thought Mick and Ronnie looked exactly like
their photos, but that Keith was much more handsome than most of
his pics.

i thought the same the one time i ran into keith on the street,
circa 1980. i managed to pull it together only enough to greet
him with a "hey keith!" to which he responded with a pleasant
grunt and a nod as he hurried by, walking at a very fast pace
(on the street in Soho, Manhattan, without any bodyguard, but
with a tall very slim short-haired strawberry blonde who was
definitely not Patti. He wore the skinniest black jeans,
a lightweight black leather jacket, and i remember being
surprised that he seemed to have 30% gray hair. So I suppose
he had already started dying his hair when he was onstage).

i suppose i should fess up completely about the keith encounter on
the street.

the complete story is that he whipped by me before i could even react.
i was in a business suit. it was a fairly warm day, despite keith's
leather jacket. so brilliant me decided to run completely around a
very big NYC block to head him off at the pass. which i did.
sweating and puffing in full business drag is how i looked when
i squeezed out my smiling "hey keith". so i'm lucky i got the
pleasant grunt in return. he could have easily and justifiably
laughed his ass off at the ridiculous sight of me.

Several times, during my 27 concerts with the stones.. i was standing a few meters from keef and ron. looked them straight in the eye. could not sleep all night
During a 1995 concert, they were at the small stage.
i was standing close to ronnie, he was having a drink.
i asked him if i could take a pic, YEAH MATE!!.
That was great !!
During all my concerts, i was near the stage, and i felt so HAPPY !!!
Wil it happen again???
bye Jeroen

At 14 I really thought rock stars were a whole different species. So when the Stones came out on stage (and especially Mick) my first time seeing them—decades into their career—I was astounded. IT'S THEM! DOWN FROM OLYMPUS! I kind of miss that naive attitude I had! Now I know they're talented, charismatic guys, but, nonetheless, just guys.

Yes, they're all just WEE little fellers! Too small for sports. That's why they join bands, ya see. For some reason, we expect them all to be at least 6'3". Larger than life.

Most of the English rock stars claim to be 5'11" ever notice that? So people are surprised when they meet them how petite they actually are.

P.S. LOVE that story about Mick in the Knebworth forest with the Girl Guides - awesome.

Not me. I'm getting shorter as I get older. Sad but true.
