In the first few seconds of seeing a Rolling Stone up close or even being privileged enough to meet one. What sort of things were ya' thinking?

"He's just a little guy. Nice suit, though".

I was at a party in NYC with Keith Richards and was standing right next to him. The thing that struck me was how physically small he was. Not just thin, but also fairly short...around 5'8". I had seen him play many times before at close range but somehow he always seemed bigger onstage. I've seen lots of rock stars up close over the years and many of them are shorter in person than they appear onstage or on television.

like mythical creatures coming to life (from the front row at alpine valley '89)...a bit surreal
to see these guys in the flesh for the first time. weird to think we were all breathing the same air.

IORR............but I like it!

I was walking around backstage at the New Barbarians show in Milwaukee, Wisconisn, in 1979. The area was relaxed and uncrowded. Keith was leaning up against a wall, having a smoke as I walked by and I thought, "Damn, that guy is short!"

Watching The Stones walk out on stage like Combat Soldiers taking up there positions on the front line.I was thinking they're going to take their World Supremacy in the Rock industry to a whole new level..well beyond the reach of anyone whose brave enough to take them on..smoking smiley

First thing I thought when I met Keith, aside from "Holy sh*t, I'm meeting Keith!" is "Man, he's short!"

First thing I thought when I met Ronnie was "Holy crap, his head is huge!" He's got a gigantic melon on top of a scrawny, bird-like body. No wonder why he's drunk all the time - standing up must be a real bitch.

I didn't talk to him but I was about 10 feet away from Charlie the afternoon of the Bang opener at Fenway. With him it was "Cuffed jeans, white socks, and penny loafers - Charlie's into James Dean?"

Never ran into a Stone but I did bump into Joey Spaminato years ago and my jaw dropped. He looked right through me. Years later a buddy of mine had Terry Adams sit in with his band and I walked over at the break and Terry did the same thing! Big stars, big shots NRBQ!

Saw Keith close up at Dodger stadium and I was fascinated by how much dark eye makeup he had on.

The closest I ever came to an actual encounter with a Stone was probably chatting with Rolling Hansie right here at IORR!

I had the same impression.

I met Ron Wood & Ian Mclagan, both full of jokes & smiles. We talked a few minutes about our favorite soul acts, nothing bad to say about either of 'em!

When I went and got my signed copy of Stone Alone in 1990, I was struck with how small Bill Wyman is.

Never had the good fortune to meet any of them, however a friend of mine bumped into Jagger in the woods; It was pre Knebworth and she was camping with the girl guides somewhere near the Knebworth House grounds and lo and behold Jagger came running through the woods. She recalls that whilst he was incredibly friendly several of her friends didn't believe it was him as they thought he was too short. I still to this day can't believe they didn't get photos or a autograph - or even better the guest list for Knebworth show!

Yes, they're all just WEE little fellers! Too small for sports. That's why they join bands, ya see. For some reason, we expect them all to be at least 6'3". Larger than life.

tatters..If The Stones wanted to play anyone of the three main sports played in Britain..Soccer,Rugby or Cricket they would all be a good height for them.Being 6'3 ya' probably would be to tall for most sports played in the UK in the 1960's

Ten feet/3m away from Mick; he had an undersize black T-shirt on and was flexing his arms above his head. My thought was how extremely ripped his upper body was and how flat his stomach (this was 2007).

I've met Keith,Charlie, and Ronnie at various times, and was always quite thrilled.
Keith looked great, Ronnie looked ill, and Charlie looked dapper.

My brother met Ronnie once and said Ronnie had bad B.O.
