OT: What country player could outplay Albert Lee?
Posted by: ripthisjoint908 ()

Found this last night...Albert has always been one of the best, but who was playing this kind of country guitar as well as he was at this time? check at the 2:30 mark till the end. The Hot Band as a whole always seems overlooked. Emmylou had one of the tightest bands around. these cats were GOOD.

Albert Lee is a phenomenal player. I wish Id seen that band, the Hot Band.

Around the same time, Ricky Skaggs had a similar band. The guitarist in his band was Ray Flacke, also an Englishman.

check out his solo in this one. around 1.25 ...I saw this band.

Ricky Skaggs himself is a real virtuoso too when he lets loose on a mandocaster..

I rather watch her sing and play than two guitarists outplay each other.

Not too many better than Albert.

Marty Stuart has a new double CD - Saturday Night Sunday Morning - that I've been listening to a lot lately. At the risk of blasphemy, it's almost like a country "Exile". Lots of different styles, very well played, nice and loose. Even has a cut that sounds like "Turd On The Run" mixed with "Claudine" and one that sounds like "Hip Shake". Highly recommended, great playing.

Not anymore. Saw her this year with Lanois... the voice is gone. At times she even reminded me of Rob Halford. No offense to Rob btw, he's the greatest in metal.

In country guitar I would like to mention Vince Gill. His music can be sirupy, but the man can play.

Albert Lee is an excellent picker - one of the few British guitarists who plays in that style. Emmylou also used James Burton before Albert Lee. I figure he could give Albert a run for his money.

My dad is friends with Emmylou...I've seen her up close in person and she is indeed still a very beautiful woman. A silver haired queen.

As far as Albert Lee goes yeah he could play a mean telecaster. Saw him Las Vegas a few years back in a small venue and he was very entertaining albiet a bit less flashy than his earlier years.

peace

Emmy Lou had a series of hot players in that band. James Burton was no slouch.

Hey I enjoyed that guy, his tone was pretty rad. Don't think he is in the same stratosphere as Albert Lee in his prime though. As much I liked his sound I'd like to hear him playing a purely clean tone.

peace

Thought I'd mention Bill Kirchen formerly of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen. Has has a pretty good telecaster thing going on. The late Clarence White was phenomenal. I'll throw in Don Rich of the Buckaroos too. Along with Lee, Atkins, Reed, Clark, all great.
