Got my tix and just wondering who else was going, last year was a cracking gig, I usually go to bloodstock every year since it started but last year i gave it a miss to go to the Faces a goodwood, festival itself was crap, but the Faces themselves were the highlight of the day.

so who here is going to the cornbury festival? just wanna keep an eye out.

They have three common members in Ronnie Lane, bass, (deceased), Ian McLagan, keyboards, and Kenny (aka Kenney) Jones on drums. The Small Faces also had as lead singer one of the best front men of all time, Stevie Marriott.

He left to for Humble Pie wit Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley and Greg Ridley. In his Marriott's place came Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart from The Jeff Beck Group. Two incredible bands with a similar name.

Maybe you should mention that he was also the guitarist (yes, it took two people to replace him for The Face).

Well they'll certainly never be The Small Faces again as Steve Marriott died in 1991: [en.wikipedia.org] (& Ronnie Lane is also no longer with us of course).

I've always been more of a fan of The Small Faces (particularly their rawer Decca stuff from 1965 to early 1967). Led Zeppelin fans may recognise these lyrics:

What a gig that was! Truly memorable performance by everyone and Ronnie in absolute top notch form! Brilliant absolutely brilliant, even a couple of small faces numbers thrown in.

No video from me: the sound at Cornbury was much louder than Goodwood, and I know from previous experience that close to the stage my little camera's mike would have been overwhelmed (see for example the video below which isn't mine and was taken from further back). No special guests in spite of rumours, but it was a storming set from the Faces. Early on, Mick Hucknall's vocals were too low in the mix, but we had a set including:

I'm still disapointed that I had to give back the tics for their cancelled German shows.

I forgot to mention that the festival are producing an instant double CD of performances from the weekend - not just the Faces of course, but there will be some Faces content. I'll let you know what's on it when I get mine.
