The Rolling Stones "Europe '73" by Royal Sound
Date: October 22, 2014 13:51

Any opinions about this multicolor vinyl release?

I just purchased it. Took a chance on the quality being great, hopefully not playing too fast like "Rock Out, Cock Out" does...

It was for years the best sounding release, using the same sources as VGP's Europe 75 5th edition.

It's Brussels Affair inside - Brussels and London 73, that is.

Everyone knows that these shows sound great, but I wonder if anybody knew about this vinyl release in particular - compared to all the others.

You got a great deal for $80. I remember it going for more than double that price and not near mint condition either. Suppose to be the best recording on vinyl. Plus multi-color makes it very rare. Enjoy!

I think the photo shows the band in IORR-outfit; so 1974, no ?

I had Nasty Music double vinyl in the 70ies. Just cracker ...

You mean of those shows or the Stones in general?
Cause I'd say Grand Final was the best sounding Stones vinyl boot.

I would say from this concert, mind you I don't have the record, just heard all the great stories. When I finally found a copy the price was way out of my range. Only saw it once btw.

It's a "pre-Swingin' Pig" - release, done by the same guy. The tape used was a direct reel-to-reel copy of a BBC archive tape with these Europe '73 recordings. One can't get much closer to the source recording!

Well, it presents the greatest rock and roll band of the world in their best form ever; there is a world class lead guitarist there, world's greatest idiosyncratic rhythm guitar player, the straightest rhythm section in their tightest form ever plus the sexiest singer in his full glory, when he really was that... Just go ahead and listen! Rock and roll just can be any better!

I have two cd-versions and one other vinyl version. This one has the best sound by far.

You are one lucky Stones fan!

The 2 Stones' pieces on Royal Sound splatter wax were the finest vinyl releases of the 80s and arguably overall. The other was Get Your Leeds Lungs Out.

I first got this piece in the 80s, and until the official release, it was THE ultimate vinyl and even audio representation of these tracks and shows. Later on, in the 90s, when specialized CD sets came out, including Brussels Affair and some others, they were sourced from this vinyl.

I sold it in 92 for $120, and looked for years to get it back and finally did in 2004. Typically, this is a $175-$200 piece, so $80 US in Oslo was a steal.

I seem to recall that that this was a VERY limited edition, as in 200 copies.

I heard Royal Sound got busted in late 87, but it would be good to learn more.

Finally, Chris M.'s site is a must at [www.rollingstonesnet.com]

Enjoy!!!!!

Many thanx for correcting that, as I could not recall.

Again, if one can find this on vinyl - GET IT, as it is virtual gold among trading circles.
