Villefranche-sur-Mer today // 40 yrs since Keith arrived at Nellcote

Villefranche has for the last twenty years been a fave sanctuary for me, really nice ambience and light. And today being exactly 40 years since Keith first set foot in Nellcote I had to stop by again.

Theres always so many new things to see in the neighborhood too that has relevance to that summer of 1971. Despite Exile being my all time fave-LP, to me its not about whether Tumbling Dice was really recorded here or what not. Nellcote and the myth of Exile is about a state of mind, the feeling of wasted elegance, of youth, of everything golden. That´s what drags me back down here.
And its still exquisite. Today the sun shined down on us as usual. The masses of tourists have yet to arrive so was calm and everything easygoing.

There´s new construction going on now on Nellcote again after the massive 2008 redecorations.
Currently they are making a 25 m2 addition and "new openings" to the structure, according to the sign posted outside.

Well - just a quick hello and goodbye from Villefrance.
Wish we could share this moment here. It really nice.

I love those images of Nellcote from 2008. the place is so fancy ...and over-the top aristocratic looking, like a palace..
then you think of that basement...
and that music...
and the inheritors and practitioners of that music from the American South...
where a bigger disconnect between where the originators of that music lived, and Nellcote could hardly be imagined...

It's Villefranche, not Villefrance. Sometimes called Villefranche-sur-Mer.

There are like 20 towns called Villefranche (sur Saône, Cher, Lonchat), it's better to be specific and call it Villefranche sur Mer.

Yeah sorry about the typo and I have clarified it now. Thought it was clear, this being a RS forum and all. But then again, I forgot about the sessions at villa Nellcote in Villefranche-sur-Saône. Those were legen...wait for it....dary!

Especially if somebody use a GPS to find the place and ask for Villefranche, he could be disapointed grinning smiley
