Which tracks still take your breath away?
Posted by: Elmo ()

I decided to play the Chess Sessions CD on a car journey today and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I heard some of the tracks again, I just wanted to get out of the car and DANCE! and this is music I have been listening to since the day it was first released, possibly 45 years or more years ago...Around and Around, Can't Be Satisfied, Down the Road Apiece, Down in the Bottom...

Which tracks still do it for you, decades later?

71Tele:

Turd on the Run: YES!!! Great, great record - underappreciated.

But only Love in Vain from Ya Yas? I think Oakland '69 ('LivR' show) is stunning too. Mick T. 'got right carried away with it.'

Even after decades of listening, there are thankfully at least 30 tracks on official releases that still take my breath away. And most of them, like most of yours, have never been on a 'hits' compilation or even played on the radio much when they were released.

Let It Loose
Sway
Down In The Hole
I Got The Blues
Winter
CYHMK
Monkey Man
Jigsaw Puzzle
Ventilator Blues
Till The Next Time We Say Goodbye
YCAGWYW and side 3 of Love You Live
SFTD, LIV, MR from Ya-Ya's
Memory Motel
Dancing w/ Mr D
Gimme Shelter
2000 LYFH
etc, etc.....

Only because I was only including official releases, scaffer. "Turd" is really an amazing track. It's an express-train-speed shuffle. One of Keith's best rhythm guitar tracks ever, imo, and witty (if not especially deep) lyrics.

And why the @#$%& not? ..........but i guess u havet to get the subtexts...prescient forewarnings within the simple lines. truly jaggers most audaciuosly direct political song ever...and yet....sadly ..it flies over so many heads. U dont think the song is just about a "little girl" do u? the girl is the emotional context of a culture of poverty...female subjugation....imperialism referencing the history of nicaragua....but oh well.......and let it loose....giimme shelter tumbling dice winter.....
