Who were among the first special guests to be invited to play with the Stones?

Atlantic City '89 -- Axl and Izzy, Clapton, John Lee Hooker. Seems to me that was the first time guests were formally part of a show.

I prefer to see the Stones without guests. I go to the concerts to see the boys and not to see guests. But is just my opinion of course. smileys with beer

Yes '72 may be the first as posted above.

Stephen Stills on keyboards (piano?) Amsterdam, 1970.

Did anyone mention Doug Kershaw on fiddle in '78?

i'm surprised colonial hasn't chimed in saying that we, the people, the fans, are the special guests, the first and only, because we get to witness the rolling stones, THE GREATEST THING EVER, perform for us.

He played fiddle on "Far Away Eyes." It's a little loose but, ya know...the feelin' is there, dig?

It happened at the Will Rogers Center, in Fort Worth in 1978. I have it on the famous Handsome Girls boot box, but I'm sure it's being distributed in ways I barely fathom (torrents? FLAC?) all over the crazy InterWeb...

Sound quality is phenomenal.

Mathjis, this amazes me -- you just rattle those off from memory, incredible. I wish I had the same capacity for detail committed to memory.

...and though that would be a bit over-the-top (as ever), I'm surprised that we're suposed to find that ludicrous, ridiculous & dumb if he said so, apparently!?
For I would agree with him.

Billly Preston 1975
His two songs actually interrupted the Stones Concert toward the end of the show before final crescendo of songs

but Billy Preston played entire shows with the Stones as a sort of backing musician, so he was more of a regular than a special guest. Same with Ollie Brown.
