I don´t say there´s no good music out there - I like alternative bands, also there are many great new blues artists. I think we´ve got really much good music today - but one kind of music is missing: rock music. That´s the point: There are many great bands, but my favorite kind of music, classic rock, seems to be dead. Sure, there are some little bands like Blues Pills, The Brew and so on, but: We have to face that someday great rock bands like the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, The Who and so on aren´t there anymore. And I´m afraid the little new real rock bands won´t have the success they deserve. No, I don´t think rock music will die (there are always some little bands who like to play classic rock), but I think rock music will never be as popular as it was back in the last years, and that´s very sad.
Your completely right............especially when you listen to radio nowadays there is nothing but muzak.........

This is true- classic rock is an era in history now, just like the Jazz age, and the centuries and centuries of classical music that came before it. There are bands like the Sheepdogs and whatnot these days, but honestly, I'm quite satisfied with the great body of work that the artists of the past left for us- I don't know that that could ever be recreated. A lot of the music that they gave us (well, whoever was around then, because I missed that boat) was a product of the civil and political and social upheaval of the time. Now in the countries that all of these bands came from, that is not really happening so much so there is not really the same motivating force to speak out with one's music. I could be completely wrong, but I feel like it was a right-place right-time sort of deal. It was an important period in history that also became a fad among the youth, and that is why these bands were so popular/prevalent. Nowadays, people in their teens are more into computers and EDM music and ecstasy, so there is a lot of electronic stuff happening.
Back in my college radio days I was consigned to the 3am weekday shift and I used to play Gregorian Chants just to see if anyone was listening.
I just see them as phoney baloney. It was kind of the same thing when we were supposed hippies. People then and now were proving they were non-conformist by adhering in a super conformist way to the fashions and attitude of a small group. The thing that's weird to me is the dragging on of a look and attitude for over 20 years. Hipsters in Silver Lake with laptops at coffee shops look exactly like they did walking down Melrose Avenue 20 years ago. I see this in L.A. gangbangers who still sport the same shaved head and white t-shirt from the 80s. I see kids still wearing their pants down around their knees, like they did 20 years ago. Fashion and attitudes have become frozen in amber. I mean can somebody really think they're being hip any more when they sit down to get a tattoo?

I certainly think that many folks musical tastes are more varied than they used to be. I suppose that's a positive aspect of easy internet access to check things out.
Music doesn't drive "youth culture" like it did in the old days either.
Up until the the internet/Computer game age, musical tastes pretty much defined the "tribal" identities of young people.
There are many more factors today.

I came across the Rival Sons' video for Pressure and Time the other day. Pretty cool. Influences obvious, but who cares? Also saw Jake Bugg in concert the other day, a very impressive songwriter but not much personality. Also recommend:
Miles Kane - if you like Mod-style rock
As Animals - new French band
Vaccines - fun, punk-infused rock
Jezabels - Australian female-led band; The 1969 Club - French; Kasabian; The Fray; Tom Odell - not rock, but a nice piano balladeer for those appropriate moments.
Mainstream rock is becoming more pop-oriented. It's a commercial consideration as it becomes harder to get on to radio playlists and as TV shows like The Voice gain prominence. That's why you see bands like Aerosmith go to shopping malls or line up Ryan Seacrest to announce tours. "Edgy" hipster outfits like MGMT and Foster the People straddle the genres. And of course there's little difference these days between pop and country.
I'm going to see them on Thursday evening. The gig is at something like 7.30 pm.
Then again, its a school night and they probably have to get home in time to finish their homework before they go to bed.

rock music is a thing of the past-just like jazz was popular years ago and then gave way to rock and roll,now rock and roll has become a thing of the past and given way to hip hop music.
and please save me the inevitable "my 18 year old listens to pink floyd" stuff-i listened to muddy waters when i was 14 but that doesnt mean it was what was the happening thing at the time.
the cord was cut at some point and kids began their own thing,its the way of the world.
of course there are people playing rock and roll- just like they are still playing jazz but its not in its heyday or even close.if you took the last 20 years and gave me the best rock records put out i'll bet i could top it using the first 6 months of 1969.

We had psychadelic / blues / classic rock in the siexties, we had hard rock in the seventies, we had punk and pop rock in the eighties, we had grunge and indie in the nineteens - but where is the rock music today? I don´t see any new big artists which make real rock - there weren´t no new real big rock bands since Nirvana. Also, there is no special rock genre which is dominant today. What do you think? Will rock music be dead in some years?

Well Oasis got as big as Nirvana 5 years after Nevermind ws released. The answer is easy, internet, celll phones and generally lazy youth has destroyed the Rock n Roll Culture.
An example:
-"Wanna check out the new band down the club tonite??"
_"Nah, can't be arsed, if I got the time between the twitterings and facebook wankings, porn sites and what have you, I might check 'em out on Youtube."
This is the naked truth. Unfortunately. Lars Ulrich was right back in 98/99, Metallica should've killed off Napster and the rest of that rubbish. At least we had kids running around buying records in RECORD SHOPS and seeing bands like Charlatans and Primal Scream on the continent. Now they won't come because these bands expenses were covered by the record companies.
It's alright for bands like U2, Oasis, E-Street Band, Metallica and our boys of course cos they are big enough. But the mid-large ones hardly get to mainland Europe anymore.

Personally, I'm also into acts like Jake Bugg and The Killers. I think there is a tendency to think that there is no good music because there is so many different sounds out there and everyone seems to listen to different things. Don't be cynical because things have changed, there is still good music out there- you just have to look for it. What will be remembered 20 years from now we will have to wait and see.

All we are experiencing is the progression of time and culture. Rock n Roll has been around in some iteration since the early 1950's. Gregorian Chants were the rage at one time but they too have been regulated to their chapter in history. Time doesn't even wait for Rock N Roll man.

it was at the barclays center on 3/31/14 with black sabbath blowing our brains out and whats left of our ears .great show, ozzy was in fine voice and tony iommi was blazing the frets and geezer was slamming home the bottom like it was nobody's business (really good drummer also)(not bill ward).rock and roll is not DEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If these 16-18 year old don't get your rock n roll mojo going I'm not sure what would. 60's vibe, 3 pc plus singer, awesome drummer, good lead singing, energy.
