Ever since I first heard this version I 've been totally amazed. What happens in this number in the first few minutes sounds to be a very cool jamming. Especielly at around 1:06 when the piano (I guess Ian McLagan) enters.

It must be the best live version of this song. Somehow it reminds me to the basics of 2120 South Michigan Avenue. Have they played Star star as loose as here at any other show?

Well to me it sounds like Mick ain't ready to start sing, it's surely hilarious.... The Oshawa setlist is brilliant, opening with Prodigal Son. Should do it again.

Well to me it sounds like 'a problem'

Yeah sounds like they just mucked it up and it takes a while to get into the song, still pretty cool though! I've actually got this show on vinyl. The New Barbarians set is pretty sweet as well, as rough and ready as it is.

yes it was.

Anyone konws whether Star Star on both the 1st and 2nd show had this 'problem/jamming' start at Oshawa?

...according to Setlist.fm:

Let It Rock (Chuck Berry cover)
Respectable
Star Star
Beast of Burden
Just My Imagination (The Temptations cover)
When the Whip Comes Down
Shattered
Miss You
Jumpin' Jack Flash

...I stand corrected (by myself): that was just the first show.
The setlist for the 2nd show, as follows:

Prodigal Son (Robert Wilkins cover)
Let It Rock (Chuck Berry cover)
Respectable
Star Star
Beast of Burden
Just My Imagination (The Temptations cover)
When the Whip Comes Down
Shattered
Miss You
Jumpin' Jack Flash

Dirty old Stones. I love this messy version. That's Rock'n Roll ...

Yes, this is F'ing amazing, I have listened to this over and over and over for a couple of years...Aside from being the best Star Star ever, It could be one of the the greatest live Rock n' Roll songs !!!! (I am thinking the piano is Stu), although I could be off the mark.

By the way, Prodigal Son was played at both Oshawa shows, between the Barbarians' set and the Stones' set.
The photographic evidence:

- Oshawa April 22nd 1979 by Richard Aaron

- ditto

They were wasted. This was a sloppy show but because its from 79, its cool by default.

This. Handsome Girls is the bootleg that made me want to mix bands. I still remember the first time I heard When The Whip Comes Down on Sucking In The 70s... I thought... What band is this? Where did this live recording come from??? I own almost every record and I have never seen a live album from this tour! I must have missed something... ha!

I had a similar expeience the first time I saw the SNL performance replayed on cable access TV. I know this is a controversial performance among stones fans. I was blown away by how cool it was.

Good albeit very sloppy performance. My favorite version of "Star Star" has to go to the Love You Live version.
