One of the best recorded Stones tracks ever, imo.

Fantastic four to the floor funk. NOT DISCO! Some incredible guitar on this baby, and it smokes. Jagger's faux Jamaican accent is a bit forced, but also he sounds like he is having a ball with it. So who cares? And Charlie. Charlie's good tonight isn't he? Damn straight he is fantastic! A wonderful track from a vastly underrated Stones disc.
And what drives me crazy is all the bullshit press that often talks about the Stones "unsuccessful forays into disco during the late 70s..." What music are they talking about? Hot Stuff? Miss You? Again, for me those are great funk tracks. The only real disco sounding song was Emotional Rescue, but that is also a stretch, more like a Curtis Mayfield acid romp than a traditional disco song.

Anyhow, Hot Stuff is indeed what it's name implies. Love it!

Seemlessly follows the last track off the last Stones album Fingerprint File like a dream. I so wish they'd have made an entire album of honkyass funk like this.

Disco was raging in the swinging hotspots of the world but funk was its cooler cousin and boy did the Stones play it well. It was also semi-rap, way ahead of its time, Jagger more or less speaking the words instead of singing them.

It has an amazing tension and an even more amazing guitar solo played by the great Harvey Mandel. BTW if you want to hear more of him then check out his album The Snake and his incredible, psychedelic version of Wade In The Water off the album Cristo Redentor.

Hot stuff is one of their best songs. On a list of underrated songs, this is the one. It was a highlight on the 1976 tour, and if you want cool, look at them performing it at Knebworth.

The only thing that bothers me....is that I wish it was recorded/released one year earlier - so it would be a part of the 1975 setlist......we'd have the ultimate live version, if so. They rehearsed it for 1978 - but didn't perform it, unfortunately

The studio version remains the absolute best version, IMO.....which is a rare thing for Rolling Stones songs

I really wish I could agree with the above posts, but Hot Stuff leaves me stone cold. A flaccid beat, directionless melody, and forced vocals are all I can hear. The sound of a band that's lost its way.

On "Black and Blue" a little bit boring, too long I think, although the lead part of the guitar is very interesting, but in my opinion not loud enough. I like the live version from "Love You Live" with one of the quite good solos from RW; this version has more power and is more energetic.

Who plays the second rhythm guitar (the sigle line riff that really sets the groove)? I am quite sure it is Keith and not Mandel, but am not 100% sure. What does the inner sleeve say?

Yeah, I know you like the 75 leg the most

Still, tracks like Hot Stuff, Hand Of Fate, Fool To Cry (!) and Hey Negrita were good enough to improve the set, imo - although some of the energy and tightness might have been gone by the time they hit Europe in 76.

Completely agree....! Apart from Fool To Cry that is

Hand Of Fate, Hey Negrita and Hot Stuff were all highlights of the 1976 shows - some real great licks being spread out on those 3 songs

Yeah, that was a good version too. I was at that show and remember being shocked by getting such a great and varied set list. And they were on fire! I like Hot Stuff infused with the stax style horns. Nice!

+1 to the comments that this is one of their best-recorded tracks. Kind of frustrating that they weren't able to capture such high fidelity more often.

I didn't know what to make of it when it came out...and I still don't. It sounds kind of sterile to me, and yet, it has an undefinable something that is really cool. So I can't dismiss it, yet it's never one of the tracks I'm in the mood to hear. Yet, when I DO happen to hear it, I kind of like it.

If it sounds like I'm confused that's because I am.

I remember being excited at a Disco in '76 when they played this near the end of the night. The monster sound system really pumped it out. Then when Billy's icy piano took over at the end it was too much.

How can an English boy like Bill Wyman outfunk Darryl? But it's true.

Ha Ha..you think Stones music is giving any space for Darryls funkier sides?
