Still worth givin' the Mack Rice original a spin.......

And I would add the great version done by Buddy Guy with Jeff Beck on Damn Right I've Got the Blues. Great version.

It is impossible to pick one tune, there are so many overated ones out there. Some of them are really good of course, the fact they are overated doesn't have to mean they are bad.

I think that for instance Satisfaction is overated in the sence, that when you ask people about The Stones, a lot of them will only know this one song and so it is easy to get a feeling that nothing else The Stones ever did comes even close. Which is not true obviously. So from that point of veiw it is extremely overrated, but it is an amazing song of course.

If you ask me which songs are overated in the sense that they are "big," but crappy, there is really a lot of them. Just turn on the radio...but what pops up in my mind is "The final coundown" by Europe. This tune was so popular you could not escape it back when it was released. Yet I have always found it extremely stupid. Sure, there are worse examples, but this one comes to my mind rigt now.

And to the video of John "clapping" hands - he did this regulary back then, I have it on many videos...I never understood why he did it. If it was once, I would think it was a sudden idea, one sometimes does something spontaneously which seems to bee a good idea in his head, but turns out bad. But the fact he did it regulary...as much as I love The Beatles, I always feel ashamed when I see it.

There is a BIG difference between overrated and "tired of hearing"

I have to go with A Day In The Life today, not a bad song but all the hype implants don't have it looking so good. Nothing profound lyrically, the sound is courtesy George Martin, but it was "heavy" at the time....far out man, groovy, and
even somewhat original I admit....but it falls so far short from the hype it is undeniably overrated.

I have never, ever understood its 'iconic' status. There's no melody whatsoever, it's repetitive, goofy words, sounds like a throwaway to me compared to how it's worshipped. I don't hate the song - there's waaaaay worse Stones tunes out there. But... I never ever crave listening to Shattered, and live in the Vegas Years it's been an absolute fail, every time.

Number 2: Street Fighting Man

(and I'm counting songs here, not purposefully just Stones songs)

It's not even in my top 40 favourite stones songs. It just doesn't do it for me. The acoustic guitar through the tapedeck sound whick works SO well on Flash just seems tinny to me. The double-vocaled two-note verses don't sound inspired to me at all. When our band used to cover it way back it was my least fave stones song to sing (next to it's only rock and roll.

I do like the 72-73 live versions due to it's frenzied energy (something lackin gin the studio version).

Now again, I don't hate the song, but I don't feel it deserves it's iconic status, like Shattered.

i'm a big Queen fan but for me its Bohemian Rhapsody. The song has just been played to death, the inovative side of it I liked i don't here anymore due to overplay. There are stones numbers i'm bored of due to overplay too.
