R.I.P. Geert - Jan - he finally found his rest
Dear All,
Last Friday, Geert-Jan was given his final rest. Some fine words of wisdom were spoken for him during a very intimate service. His al-time favourites 'Wild Horses', 'Gimme Shelter' and finally 'Before they make me run' were the songs that were played during the service.
Thanks for being such a great friend and soulmate.
I'll gonna miss you big time!

after fighting his disease ALS for almost 2,5 years, my best friend
Geert-Jan passed away over the weekend.
Geert-Jan was only 41 yrs old. GJ was for me the ultimate and best buddy I ever had. I knew him for 25 years. I introduced him into the stones music many years ago, but it was allways Geert-jan that pulled the wagon when it came to arranging the tickets etc.
His all-time hero was and is Keith Richards. Keith meant the world for him. I arranged a signed photo after consulting Keith's management for almost 2 years. God, the guy was so happy. tears rollign down his cheeks. The photo remained on theliving room table until the end. He allways was with full joy looking at it.
He told me: 'this means that Keith was thinking of ME for at least 5 seconds". I tild him: "Nobody will take that away"
we had many discussions about the music of our hero's. Keiths' way of living.
In fact it was Geert who won the poll a few years ago, can you remember?
Geert was daily visiting this website. He was allways curious of what was happening. he never subscribed, he was not that type of guy. But the stories of BV, Pauly, rockman and all the other 'stones addicts' on this board made him very happy.
he wrote to me once: "Did you notice that there is actually somebody (can;t remember who of you it was
) who is actually studying the bookshelves at the back of Keith?" We laughed a lot about the humor, knowledge and discussions on the board.
I can only say Geert-Jan "Until the next time we meet again". you have lived your life with lots of humor and pride. GJ was a guy who never complained about his desease. he just wanted t live. He loved a fine dish and some good wine and he never surrenderd to his disease.
I want to thank BV, addicted and Cindy-C for either their support or kind words.
It's good to have a way of expressing the hard time.
His last days he was only reading. He couldn't do more. He was trapped inside his body and now he got his freedom back. I cannot believe there is any disease that is so unfair as ALS. Nobody knows where it comes from. the mind remains intact until the end, but the body will fade away.
the reading was of course "LIFE". geert-Jan was not able to finish it. He knows the story. He told me in the end that he will now join the table with Brian Jones, JL Hooker and Muddy.
when he passed away, I gave hi m a big kiss on his forehead, told him I will never ever forget him.
This morning it was
memory motel, slipping away, wild horses, gimme shelter, waiting on a friend that blew the roof of the house I think.
Gj was a friend, a mate, somebody with a great heart, a true PSV fan, integer, respectful to anybody else.
Geert-Jan,
I love you forever as a friend.
HEAD, HEART AND BALLS
ONE LOVE FOREVER
