I would like to see Dire Straits open up for the Stones. I have no idea what Knopfler has been up to lately.

I'd like to see a local band from whatever city they happen to be in at the time.

Well if that is the case, then Clarence Clemmons & Temples of Soul are the choice. C.C. resides in West Palm.

Let's only hope they are mutually exclusive and only open up for each other - LOL

So much to choose from, it would take a while to pick just one artist.

Knopfler recently said in a BBC documentary that the Dire Straits are history and that he prefers the only do solo shows on an intimate scale and no great massive shows

The Beatles would be a perfect and fitting choice - they are as dead as the Stones

hes been recording and touring as a solo artist since Dire Straits split - over 15 years ago....

Doubt Dire Straits would need to be opening for anyone if they were to reform...

2 openers, then Stones. Start off w/ the Black Crowes like melillo said. And they get to close each night w/ Just Wanna See His Face, Sway and CYHMK (or some other 3 RS tunes that the Stones aren't going to play that night). Next up, a 10-piece group of hot-shit veterans and well-known newer artists 'tribute' band (think Ringo and his All-Stars w/ multiple singers, except not them) playing many of the Stones' early blues/motown/soul covertunes as well as a bunch of Stones' songs that the Stones won't or haven't played. You can fill in the blanks of musicians and guest singers and songs, but that way we'd get a whole ton more of the Stones' catalog. It could obviously even include folks who have recorded with band members in the past: the Winos, Taylor, jimmy rip, various keyboard players, some of the elder blues statesmen, more recent artists like Joss Stone, Jack White, Butch Trucks, etc., but it would be a constant band night to night, even though there would be room for guest spots during the tour.

Since we are just speculating, how about Chuck Berry and his Saint Louis line up?

That would work! spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

It would be a similar kinda thing to what Simon & Garfunkel did a few years back when they had their biggest influence(s) as support / guests: The Everly Brothers.

Then I know that I can show up late and miss them. It helps to beat the crowd and allows for a few more lines.cool smiley

He has extensive North American and UK/Euro tours coming up this year. He is very busy.
