I always like it when I notice in songs where a band has obviously lifted a part from another song. A great one is "Downed" by Cheap Trick where they steal the intro from "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles.

The Kinks "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" is a rip of JJF. Ray also liberally steals from the Beatles and other Kinks songs - he's the first to admit it.

Mississipi bullfrog - dont have my ABB here right now but the riffs copped were "Corruption" by Iggy Pop and "Suicide Blonde" by INXS. One of the songs was on the CD (Look what the cat dragged in ?) and one was on the extra tracks version, blatant rips but both good because both the riffs are cool No different imo as when they used old blues riffs.

Elvis Costello using 'The Last Time' riff on the end of a song on 'This years model'...that's my fav...and 55 of Dylans early songs with rip offs from Guthries catalogue...

The riff for NAzareth's Hair of the Dog is very similar to this, just played with a lot more attitude (the first 4 or 5 notes are the same, when I start playing HAir of the Dog on guitar, I have a hard time not accidentally going into Day Tripper).

Stones 78 thats fantastic it is the same chord progression, i know a lot of Gil Evans/Astrid stuff but never heard that album, good one!
I once read that the Smoke on the water riff was lifted from "Loose" on the Stooges album Funhouse, the riff is very similar and apparently Deep Purple were listening to that record a lot when they were touring before the recording of SONTW (sounded very unlikely to me but you never know)

Day Tripper was recorded in October '65; Satisfaction was done in May '65.

Ont that comes to mind is Surfin' USA, which sounds like a rip-off of Sweet Little Sixteen. A great track and I think as least as good as the original.

Another one, that is less obvious, is Jungle Land which uses the chord scheme of Sweet Jane.

I guess there might be some similiarites, but Hair of the Dog doesn't remind me anything about Day Tripper , and the vocal is completely opposite of Lennon.s

Well, if Hair Of The Dog is a rip on Day Tripper then so is how Keith played the rhythm guitar for Satisfaction on the Let It Bleed tour as well as Dancing With Mr D - almost exactly the same thing as Satisfaction.

This riff inspired the Beatles' I Feel Fine, Led Zeppelin's Moby Dick, Deep Purple's Rat Bat Blues and the Allman Brothers' cover of One Way Out.
Also I think this riff in turn was inspired by Ray Charles' What'd I Say.

Chuck Berry sued the Beach Boys over Surfing USA and got all song royalties for it.

John Lennon was always accusing the Stones of copying the Beatles, but in this case I guess Satisfaction came before Day Tripper.
