Andy was great, I've been reading a lot about Andy/ The Factory over the years and I do like his early drawings as well and of course his Pop-Art. There was a great expo a few years ago in Amsterdam.

A coffin cam would have been a cool idea. Just dig him up, open the lid, and slap a webcam on the inside, just so we could watch him, just to see what happens. Would have been so Warhol. And I think that's what he would have wanted. Anything to take the monotony out of just lying there being dead. Would have been so Warhol.... maybe next year....

Thanks, tatters. Apropos for the creator of EMPIRE.

Yet to find what was so great about Andy but to each his own.

If you studied all his art...not just the "pop portraits" you might feel differently.

The Warhol "early" exhibition at the Hayward in London was magnificent. As was the Los Angeles MOCA exhibition of a range of his work a few years ago was brilliant.

I'll check it out. The Campbell's Soup Can does not do it for me though.

Like his work or not, he is as influential as any artist ever, and likely more than anyone else in the past 50 years. Also a very interesting personality, although personally I find retrospectives of the Factory scene sad and appalling. I understand his role as manipulator and voyeur (and businessman and artist) and don't blame him for the self destruction and narcissism of others, but it does strike me as an odd, disturbing dynamic.

I saw him outside at the Bottom Line at a Lou Reed gig in the 80s. A few beers in me, I shouted to him "hey Andy -- let's do lunch!" He laughed and said "yesssss." I appreciated he indulged me!

Keith Ronnie and Walter Steding, Andy's painting assistant at the Factory. Andy also managed Walter's music career.

Thanks for the photo. Keith jamming on the piano w/Steding, very interesting. This is from their visit to the Factory in '77 that resulted in the cover story for "Interview" magazine, Dec. 1977 (w/Mick as Santa and Iman in his sack).
