Mick Jagger was supposed to perform at Pinkpop with Peter Tosh (I think)

Yep, he was at the site, but decided at the last moment not to do it for whatever reason. One story that surfaced is that he was harrassed too much by backstage journalists, including a Dutch tv crew, but that's just a speculation.

This picture made it to the newspaper back then.
Wasn't MJ just too drunk to perform? I'll ask Jan Smeets when I'll see him again

Nice to see Mick in The Netherlands.

Story of Jan Smeets (the organisor of PinkPop) was that Mick walked (slightly drunk) upon the stage,
noticed a camera and at that moment decided not to sing, so he said "See ya" and disappeared.
It was one of those moments Jan kept in his memory for ever. He keeps telling about it in
every interview he gives. Mick only contribution that day was kicking a soccer ball around
with members of the band Massada.

Here is a picture of Mick with Jan Smeets, from the website Cultura.nl.
There are no credits given on that site.

Great, I live in Maastricht. Didn't know he'd ever stayed there. I can't imagine one hotel in Maastricht that would be suitable to accommodate the Stones nowadays. The hotels have improved, by the way! smiling smiley

Thanks!

Maastricht! Been there. Was the home of Wieckse Witte beer, one of my favorites. Now it's gone, absorbed by Heineken and brewed elsewhere, the beer now a pale shadow of Hoegaarden. It's a lovely town though, with a medieval feel.

I have very pleasant memories of that city, thanks for posting. I happened to meet Pierre de Beauport there in '99!

I thought they were the pants MJ wore at Worhol's house during the 75 tour rehersals. In the book that Terry Southern and Christopher Sykes did. I think it was the part where they talk about the photos that Warhol was taking for Rudolf Nuyorev (sp).

I really need to get a life!

I know which ones you mean; the ones that are rolled up? Man I need to get alife too. Maybe Jagger only has a couple pairs of pants - when one is in the laundry he wears the others.
