Keith in the studio recently?
Posted by: TornAndFried ()
Date: January 26, 2011 19:20

The New York Times ran an article today about the opening of a new recording studio in New York called Jungle City. The article also mentioned another place called Germano Studios and said Keith Richards had recently done some recording there. Does anyone know (or care to speculate) what Keith might have been doing in the studio?

speculate? we never speculate here on iorr.

i susspeculate, though, that keith has recorded the next exile and is now awaiting vocal dubs from mick and guitar overdubs from the other mick. oh, and bass overdubs from the two bills.

Susspeculate, eh? What a wonderful new word - thanks StonesTod, can we have permission to use that or do you have exclusive copyright?

And some of those famous places shut down for reasons having nothing to do with lack of business. The Hit Factory on West 54th Street, for example, closed in 2005 after the death of its owner, Ed Germano, and was sold as valuable real estate; it is now the Hit Factory Condominium. Three years ago Mr. Germano’s son, Troy, opened the luxurious — but much smaller — Germano Studios on Lower Broadway, and business there is booming, he said. (In recent months the Black Eyed Peas, Mariah Carey, Keith Richards and Justin Bieber have all been there.)

Reading his part for the Life-audiobook?
Checking the remastered tracks for Vintage Winos?
Doing his overdub for Watching The River Flow?

Just three guesses...

My guess: brushing away the rust by writing some tunes to offer when Mick Jagger calls him for a get together&work on some new Rolling stones material.

As he has his own studio (Studio L) in his home in Connecticut
it's unlikely that he uses a luxerious/expensive studio in
NYC just for writing or laying down demos.

Not trying to start any wildfires here, but Steve Jordan did state that Keith was going to finish some outtakes from TALK IS CHEAP and MAIN OFFENDER for release. Since it was already stated it would not be a full CD of new or unreleased material and since Mindless Records acquired Keith's three discs from Virgin-EMI, perhaps they will be used as bonus tracks for Mindless Records' reissues. 47 minute CD's with only 10 or 11 tracks might be less attractive commercially than remastered reissues with newly mixed and overdubbed bonus tracks. Just a thought. I claim no insider knowledge.

Thanks Rocky - I just hope the outtakes could be on a separate CD. I own the japanese MO and while I love Key To The Highway (One love, Johnnie), the impact is just so different than ending the CD on Demon.

Steve Jordan works on an album by his project The Verb.
Ronnie Wood already did a session with The Verb in June 2010
(recording Willie Dixon's Woman You Need Love).
Maybe Keith will be on this album as well?

I hope that doesnt mean Keith AND Justin Beiber are recording together!

How interesting that Keith is possibly adding things to these recordings. I guess the vamping of the Exile sessions got him interested in doing something anyway...

If I'm not mistaken the idea of Keith adding to the Winos outtakes has been floating around since before the EXILE project. I think I first heard it when Keith was on Steve Jordan's radio show a few years back. Keith later answered a question about it that there wouldn't be a full CD's worth and that maybe it would be a download only like his "Run, Rudolph, Run" / "Pressure Drop" single. I suspect VINTAGE WINOS changes all of this. We know the Winos albums have been remastered recently by Mindless Records. Maybe this is one good thing to come of the Johnny Depp documentary filmings. He did get Keith, Steve, and Waddy (The Few as they called themselves during the MAIN OFFENDER sessions) back together at the same time finally. It would be a nice way to cap off his career. I also hope more of the sessions he did with Rob Fraboni, Blondie Chaplin, and George Recile 10 years ago surface. Hopefully this is what he's been working on with Pierre as well.
