Mick Jagger: Rolling Stones will take a 'bit of a break' after London gigs
Posted by: Marhsall ()
Date: July 4, 2013 20:29

The Rolling Stones will go on hiatus after their upcoming gigs in London's Hyde Park so the veteran rockers can enjoy a well-deserved break after months of touring.

The band spent two months on the road in North America before wrapping up the 50 & Counting shows in Washington, D.C. on June 24 and heading back to Britain for a landmark performance at Glastonbury festival. They will conclude their gigs with two massive shows in London's Hyde Park on July 6 and 13.

Front man Mick Jagger has revealed they will be taking a period of time off after wrapping the final concert. Speaking to Pete Mitchell of Britain's Absolute Radio station, the official radio partner for Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park, Jagger says, "It'll be fun... (we are looking) forward to doing these two shows in Hyde Park, the last two shows of... this tour so we're gonna make them the best we can... Maybe there'll be things beyond that, but right now this is the summer then we have a bit of a break."

However, Jagger is adamant fans should not give up hope of new music from the band, adding, "I'm always writing new songs so hopefully we'll do new songs one of these days soon."

"Well my heavy throbbers itchin' just to lay a solid rhythm down"

Doesn't sound too bad I think. Being the biased fan that I am I read "New Album might be coming up" and "after some months of rest they will look at some offers".

Yep, it's the logical next step, I can't imagine Taylor would not be invited to particpate in a new album and subsequent tour with his participation guaranteed on the new tracks...wow, can't wait for that to happen!

Mick's not stupid, he probably realizes they can't keep touring behind Grrr...for ever and the relative quality of D&G and OMS(as good as anything they've done since, well...) and of the Glastonbury Girl lyrics.

That's it, if they've got the energy for it, Saturday was first time I've seen them since Newark and the tank seemed pretty well topped, so......

I reckon an album by xmas is almost a dead cert (momentum and all that) and maybe a couple of dates to promote it and tour again after xmas when arenas are cheaper

I can live with this...shorter tours...a well deserved break...but hopefully it will lead to a shorter lay off.
This is a bit different this time and on the back of a very successful 7or so months...hopefully the bug will be eating away at them to continue with maybe new material.
Not too much expectations but its a good time to pause and think of possibilities

They have done ace this time again and done us proud.

Exactly! If they're not going to try to write together, it doesn't look as promising.

...they will record. With their massive international appeal they will trade on their merchandising prowess and their legacy...see the Jay Z article on how deals will be made going forward....the Stones are ideal partners for this kind of deal....JayZ just opened the flood gates:

Still, there has to be something different in the studio. Some kind of new creative spark. They can't just remake old Stones songs like they mostly have in the post-Wyman era. If there's no one new on keyboards, or bass, or worse Mick J. on bass, then what's the point?

Jeez, can you guys be any more pessimistic? Why don't we wait and see what they come up with, then you can complain all you want.

It looks promising to my eyes. Possibly Keith will feel the challenge so strong that also he will come up with some newer songs

I've heard both Mick and Keith say that the way things work nowadays is that they write stuff seperately and then when they are thinking 'Stones' they offer up what each has and see what's what, in fact Charlie said it's been this way since the '70's ...so, if they do have an album in mind then the 'seperate so far' issue is not an issue................

Thanks, Hansie. I'm not ususally prone to letting the cranky comments bother me, but it's hot as heck here today. Gonna go do the fireworks thing later...I think I'm in the mood to see some things get blown up.

Cheers to you, too! smileys with beer
