I just don't see the DW cover as so bad. Yeah, so the colors are 80's but at least it's good shot of the band.
Babylon, Steel Wheels, Voodoo, Flashpoint now those are terrible covers.
They all remind me of that bizarre film with A. Hopkins and J Lange called "Titus". And leAve it to "No Security" or "Bigger Bang" to be a photo of actual people or even the band and still be empty.

Nothing the Stones do will ever be as bad as DIRTY WORK. That LP cover is beyond horrendous. The music is just as bad.

Even as bad as VOODOO LOUNGE's cover is, it'll NEVER be as bad as DIRTY WORK. At least BRIDGES TO BABYLON is consistent - it's not garish or embarrassing like DIRTY WORK is. It's got an edge of class to it.

Hell, DIRTY WORK makes UNDERCOVER look like EXILE/LET IT BLEED/STICKY FINGERS...

The Beggar's Banquet toilet cover is just dumb.

Maybe this thread will be shorter when good covers are mentioned; not that many I'm afraid...

Black and Blue is my favorite anyway...

Flashpoint sux...Dirty Work cover was cool i thought, and colorful...Bigger Bang was GREAT! How about Best cover ? Undercover? Sticky Fingers? Satanic Majestys? I go with the 3D Cover!

Actually you're right. It's too obvious and tries so hard. It doesnt have to, the music is so rough theres no need for that sleeve.
The white jacket would have been cool. Yes, it would have been the Stones doing "White album" but with another inner sleeve.
Maybe one of the blurry outtakes from the photo session when they play cricket surrounded by a black lens, like an (sort of) updated High tide and green grass? There's one where Brian hits the ball that I like. David Kings pictures I think?

Bridges To Babylon by a mile! Tasteless, imo.

A Bigger Bang is a close second.

They should've left the nads on the lion...at least it would have been controversial, if not still stupid

Charlie also loves Keith - at least when visiting Kit Kat Klub - maybe connected to his problems....or should we say pleasures, of the mid 80s

by Ken Regan....from Dirty Work song/chord-book

I like the white cover too, however, as an alternative, the INSIDE of the Gatefold would have been a very cool cover.

Steel Wheels takes the cake, surely. What on earth were they thinking?

I love the Dirty Work and ABB covers. DW captures the essence of the band at the time perfectly, and I bought ABB on the cover alone and was how I found the Stones. I didn't even notice until months later that there was a felection of them in the lower-half of the photo - haha.

They didn't even bother to take new photos of the Stones. . just recycled the old ones from their previous album, Aftermath.

Regardless, a gazillion times better than the actual LP cover!

It still is strange to me that they deleted Bill from the picture. That's just criminal.

A Bigger Bang and Flashpoint were, in my opinion, the worst record covers in their history. What amazes me is that some graphic designer got paid mega bucks to come up with these. Times have changed since the 70's when album covert art was a whole part of the buying process. Art books were produced to capture the work of the great cover designers like Roger Dean and Patrick Woodruff (think he now works on the stones' stage design. Covers just don't seem that important to record companies these days which I guess is a product of cd's and downloads. A shame really as I feel there is a direct connection betwwen the music on a record and the cover design.

Or pretty much any of Michael Joseph's Sarum Chase and Swarkestone Hall Pavillion photos: [www.sfae.com]

I always thought Made in the Shade was a really cool cover. Don't see it very often anymore.
