Dirty Work is one of the worst covers by ANY band, laughably embarrasing. The music isnt quite as bad as its reputation though tongue sticking out smiley

Did you ever notice that the artwork of the Stones records exactly mirrors the quality of the music inside! Some Girls,Exile, Sticky Fingers on the one hand ABB,B2B and Dirty Work on the other LOL!

Dirty Work. I'm also not that fond of Dirty Work. Dirty Work is a little unpleasant, too.

EDIT: And Dirty Work is probably better forgotten.

Bridges To Babylon by a mile! Tasteless, imo.

A Bigger Bang is a close second.

If we don't think about the Decca records agter 1969 (it to many dull covers)
But Stones themselves made nice coverart until the eighties..
I could do without, covers like:

Undercover,
Emotional (the idea was funny but should had some real pitcure as well, taken at the same shoot out.)
Steel Whels
Bridges.
But I do like the "Dirty Work" cover, but it looks like I'm the only one.

I like the DW-cover, too. The colors and the style is dated, but as a band album cover, it's cool, imo.

How come nobody mentioned Live Licks yet?
Tasteless - and bad attempt of being rebellious....computer-made chick riding the tongue, "oh that's really wild" - sure

Flashpoint, Steel Wheels, No Security are also bad

I don't find Dirty Work to be bad though; not that good either - but surely not comparable to the record-covers that came later. How bad can a plain photo of the band be anyway, despite of the 80s colours....?

They really seem to have lost their way on artwork (something they used to be very good at) around Undercover. No Security takes the cake for me though. When I saw the cover, I completely lost interest in hearing the record. Not exactly the response you're going for on album covers.

Trouble with Rolling Stones album covers is that their very first one was so good, nobody before had released an album without any writing on the front cover before.
So nothing that came afterwards really worked as well, you could say they wern't bothered in begining and they have not really bothered since

I think Jagger cared quite much about the artworks throughout the 70s....even got Warhol to design some covers....but surely even Jagger lost interest after the early 80s

Same here. It really coloured how I felt about the album and I've only ever played it a couple of times. I should overcome my prejudice and get it on the ipod, I suppose.

I also like the Dirty Work cover. It's very 80's fo' sho' but that's when it was released. So what... The music on it is not worth a listen, of course.

Saying that, that's the only Stones album cover from the 80 up until today that I like. I think that from the Some Girls album cover onwards they are all very very bad. Complete utter shite. The worst of the worst are (in my humble opinion):

Emotional Rescue
Undercover
Steel Wheels
B2B
No Security
ABB

I just can't stand Goats Head Soup. It actually hurts to look at it in a way that the other bad covers (like Flashpoint) don't.

I actually like No Security once someone around here explained it to me.

Dirty Work was the beginning of the end. I honestly can't think of a single cover I like (except Stripped) that followed.

Steel Wheels is so sterile
Bridges is dull -- even that slipcase couldn't save it
Voodoo wasn't bad; I like the dancer dude
the rest are forgettable.

I quite like the colours and for a reinvented Stones or for another group the cover might work. But it's like Miami Vice if the Care Bears had been in charge of the Miami Vice wardrobe and it's horribly jarring with what remains of the sullen rock'n'roll outlaw look.

this is one of those topics where people have completely different criteria, so you're not sure why people pick different albums. I really like the covers for Goats Head Soup, Emotional Rescue, and Tattoo You. Undercover could have been better, I suppose, considering all the possibilities of the phrase "Undercover."

but Bridges to Babylon is so terribly amateurish; it looks like something in a high school art magazine. And I just don't understand No Security, never have, nor the title.

that said, I really dislike the IORR cover. Tasteless and silly in a different way. The artist's work on Diamond Dogs was much better--it's ugly but it makes sense for the album.

and then Dirty Work.
