Looks fantastic!

I don't know when it was shot, but in the interview footage shown, Rick Hall looks to be in good health.

A FAME box set came out a few years ago.

Cheers for the link,

Was surprised to see Alicia Keys credited, I thought she disliked White poeple from her comments in Vibe or some mag a few years ago. Seems unusual that she'd would be involved in such a bastion of the values of the racial melting pot.

Confused....

Ace Records have a fantastically comprehensive series of Muscle Shoals / FAME material on CD.

Alcia Keys is half white, as her mother is white, so I doubt she hates white people. Her mother raised her form age 2 after her parents separated.

There should be a 2cd soundtrack to this: I hope some record company does the honours.

This fits precisely with the fantastic book I'm reading right now.
Peter Guralnick's Sweet Soul Music is highly recommended to everyone interested in southern soul. It's not just a history lesson, it's packed with great stories told by the great soulmen themselves.

Yes, indeed. Make sure you look at the discographies at the back of the book, and go to redlick, whom Guralnick recommends.

Jamie Bing, the guy who runs Canongate, also knows a great deal about soul music.

Norah Jones always deserves to be mentioned even if she has nothing to do with the subject.
Right on.

(Or does she have a white mother?)

Very cool. I didn't watch the whole thing because I have to long day at work today...so I'll wait - and have something to look forward to.
BTW,
Who was the narrator? Sounds familiar but can't place it..

This reviewer is obviously not a music fan.

'The Downside: With a runtime of 111 minutes, Muscle Shoals is a bit long and would have benefitted from a shorter edit that perhaps focused on a certain period in the studio’s history or did not dive so deeply into the stories of each artist who recorded there...'

This is exactly what I wanted from a film like this! You have to delve into these stories, one by one - Stones, Aretha, Pickett etc....there was a backstory to their journey to Muscle Shoals ...and in the case of Pickett, Aretha and The Staple Singer....that sound became an important shift in their careers and transformed their music.
I was worried the film would be a standard, by-the-numbers run-through of this hit or that hit without stopping to study the context of Aretha and Pickett being in Muscle Shoals in the first place. I've been waiting for these stories to be told -
It sounds like the film really gets to the heart of the story, and not just the hits. This reviewer should have stuck with the Katy Perry movie.
